So after a couple of days of finally getting the Range Rover on the road after buying it as a fixer upper, I noticed the heater fans would come on for about 30 seconds and then go off, then after a minute or so they would come back on, then go off again after 30 seconds and so on and so on...

So I thought FSR. I went to my local Indy and bought a genuine LR one and went home, rolled my sleeves up and went to work on it. Nah tell a lie, had a cuppa first and watched a few how to's on you tube, which were rubbish so I looked on this great forum for the info that I needed.

Feeling confident I set about the job. Took off the side and under panels, put my work light on and discovered why my heater wasn't working correctly.

You all might think that there wasn't an FSR, but, there were two...

The previous owner, sorry bodger had, and believe this if you can, cable tied the FSR to a wiring loom, actually feeding the cable tie through the metal fingers of the FSR. Now I'm sure I've read somewhere that these fingers get hot so they had created a serious fire risk, putting not only their lives but ours at risk too - unbelievable.

Now I did say two FSR's, so I felt around and found the clip holding the other one in its proper place, it's a bit fiddly pushing down the clip while simultaneously trying to pull out the FSR with just one hand, so I lay on my left side with my legs sticking out onto the driveway pushed both hands up and into where the FSR lives pulled the clip with my left hand and pulled out the FSR with my right. Putting in the replacement is as they say the reverse of taking it out. So I can't for the life of me (literally, or could have been) think why the bodger, sorry owner, couldn't do what I had just done, after all it is one of the simplest jobs on a Range Rover and in total took me about 20 mins, you just have to have contortionist in your DNA .

There's no knowing how long it's been like this so I can't really blame the guy I bought the Range Rover from, but it certainly goes to show that there are true bodgers out there and some potentially dangerous one at that.

Sadly it's believable, I have seem many "good" repairs, the next question that normally follows is, if it's such a good repair why do you want me to look at it??

I really couldn't believe what I was looking at. Just wish I had my phone with me so I could have taken a photo.

Your description of doing the job reminds me of changing the wiper motor on an MGB..... only you've got less room... and you have to go in head first and wave your feet in the air.... a lot easier in the roadster with the hood down.... I had a GT

But I discovered what the Webasto sunroof was for  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Like many other P38a owners before me I had to change out the heater matrix O rings, so I know what you're on about there miggit.

Bit long in the tooth and stiff in the back to be doing jobs like that now

I hear you Bud... Funny you should say P38 'o' rings.. a pal of mine is about to attempt that very job

Mhmm difficult one that. If you hide you won't get roped in but on the other hand if you stay you'll get some priceless YouTube footage.

Seriously though if the job hasn't been done before on his Range Rover then he'll need to do some judicious dash cutting with a hole cutter and buying of a long (18") phillps head screwdriver and praying for good weather unless he's working inside a garage.

By the way, tell him that it's really easy to round the screw off that's holding the bracket in place on the matrix, its quite a b*tch of a job that the dealers quote 12 hours to do, he should manage about 2 - 4 hours.

After all of that the O rings are only about £2 if that.

This is a reasonably old thread but I must agree!

My drivers window stopped working, and I've found the fault had to be the switch pack in the drivers door!

I took about taking the door card off yesterday, was a bit worried about why there was wood screws in the door card but not too worried, still wouldn't come off after, why? Someone had glued/grip filled the door card on, literally!

Then inside, all the speakers were unplugged except one pioneer one :/

Why oh why!!!
