Hi guys,

This is my first post here (as i've only just got a RR) but have read plenty of posts.

The vehicle i bought did not come with a pin that fits through the tow bar as shown here:


It's the pin that fits through the square section almost central in the photo.

Any idea what this pin is called and where i can get a spare?

They are really common in Australia, we call them a "tow hitch pin" or Receiver hitch pin available at most places that sell towing equipment. I have the lockable version on mine to stop theft.

Just Type "tow hitch pin'' into google and you should find a supplier near you.

Was a pain in the but to find as a Westfalia part... then remembered that it was also genuine LR, once I had the part number was easy  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

If your going to go the Standard Pin with the spring clip, may I suggest you ditch ther clip, drill out the hole in the pin to a size that will fit a small lockable padlock. It doesn't take much for a mischievous person/ pranskter top pull out that pin whilst you are parked somewhere.

We do have some oxygen bandits here in Australia, we are trying to add more chlorine to the gene pool to breed them out though , but some find it funny to steal boat trailers or remove and steal chain shackles. We have a large population of water sport enthusiasts here with an abundance of water and leisure activities, lots of us own boats. We park at public boat launch facilities, some might be jealous of others and do these things in spite.

There is a modification which replaces the pin with a nut and bolt which is torqued up quite high, stops the bar rattling which can be a bit annoying after a few miles.

Assuming that the trailer is padlocked to the car via a big chain, the pin is the only thing that they can take... Reckon that I'd beat them at their own game.. park the car up and nick your own pin That way when they crawl out of their holes and go looking for precious's... they will discover that some thing has beaten them to it and wander off

The simple fact is if it can be nicked and there is a demand then no matter what you do they will find a way to liberate it If a bolt will confuse them go for it... but maybe a bigger chain with an attack dog on the other end might prove to be more effective  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... One solution to stop thieves is park like this, but then some thief might have scuba gear.

I drilled a hole and tapped it with an M12 in the underside of the receiver on mine , m12 bolt with locknut stops it rattleing

You are not allowed to modify tow bars, it invalidates the type approval.
