Leaking Tyre Valves

I have seen a number of threads about the sensors failing but nothing about Valves being corroded and leaking ? ( if I'm wrong shoot me)

Anyway got two new General GRABBER AT fitting a couple of weeks back now when we check one valve we could see it was heavily Corroded but was still working its seem to be slowly failing every week I'm having to put 6 psi in the rear's.

So local RR deal said you cant by the valves on there own they have to be with sensors is this true ?

I found a repair kit on ebay so bought it and thought id give that a go first.

only problem is my tyre machine is in Northampton in the back of the race van and taking the RR there is not cost effective time to find a local friendly garage. The MOT Track days Test Dummy

There are threads on the valves corroding & snapping

There was a thread about someone trying to replace the valves - I think it was someone from the states.

The whole system is awful IMHO - one of mine snapped off when I was checking the tyre pressures, just before a holiday, with the boot full to the roof Twisted Evil

The tyre deflated fully and the spare was a PITA to get out.

I bought an IID tool, disabled it & fitted regular rubber valves.

+ 1 ^ alistair,

get rid of them. they are a pain and erode badly. I had the same as Alistair with it blowing out (luckily at a filling station) but with no spare, only the foam filler system, I had to wait for over 5 hours with a newborn baby for a new valve to be found, fitted and returned - at 5.30pm on a Friday!!

Got bog standard regular rubber fitted now all round. peace mind restored!

agreed ^^^^

the tpms valves rot to feck. my FFRR was fully loaded for a weekend diving at Dorothea when the stem snapped as I was checking tyre pressure for the load. missed a days diving coz of that.

swapped em out and IID Tool disabled.

Don't discount the possibility that slow punctures (especially with harder compound AT tyres) are due to wheel corrosion, my 2004 car was terrible with poor wheel to tyre and wheel to valve sealing for a while, especially over the winter when I had Goodyear MT/Rs on. The tyre fitters then treated the wheel surfaces with a sealing compound and things improved greatly. Only Range Rovers since 1988
