strange data

I've been playing about with my reader and noticed the voltage on one corners miles off..could it be a dodgy height sensor? I have 22 inch wheels on car and don't know how to properly measure heights with these size if rim? Thanks

Car seems to go through the stages in the eas without any issue..doesn't seem to be any noticeable diffrence in heights in each corner although the back of the cars a bit lower...strange one

It's a hall effect sensor, it can't make volts...!!! It gets supplied a voltage (5volts IIRC) and returns a different amount depending on where it is, the readings will never be the same and they don't have to be, it's a relative measurement...

The ECU uses the readings to know where the corner is and adjusts the airbag to suit, that's how the system is calibrated...

That 42 volts is an error somewhere, either with the machine you used or with the sensor giving a spurious reply, it can't be right though...

Size of wheels and tyres is irrelevant for suspension calibration, you measure from the center of the wheel, upwards to the wheel arch, this takes out any under inflated tyre issue, the measurement is the same no matter what size wheels/tyres you have... Thumbs Up Pete

Clever stuff! Used the same machine that has also gave me problems measuring the reservoir pressure readings.I used it on my mates l322 and it gave both of us 11.67 bar readings..? Both cars have new compressors and his has a new reservoir..the fact both our readings where identical kind of disheartened me..its been a great wee tool to help learn diagnostics but fails when it cant read certain faults or do functions I need...my machine could be simply be faulty but I now realise i should have invested in an iid tool after I was advised on here.. Thumbs Up Cheers pete

Mine shows a similar reading - I have 3 sensors reading around 1 - 2v from memory, but one was reading 32v ! But the suspension works fine, so I've not worried about it. I was using my Foxwell NT644, but I've just invested in an IID as well. It will be interesting to plug that in and see what it shows (when it arrives).

Did you have any luck with this? My front LH sensor was showing between 30 and 40 volts, i've just replaced it now with a genuine LR height sensor and it's still reading it Sad

Yeah it was was a fault with the icarsofts readings.. just got an iid tool from santa and readings are normal. Still think the icarsofts a decent introductory data reader but I've found mines has been wrong on a few different issues.. Thumbs Up

Well that makes it pretty useless then, if it can't even give a correct live value you're better off not having anything at all...!!! Rolling Eyes Pete

Oh Censored

Thats the tool I've been using!!

I keep getting articulation validity error though, and thought it must be that height sensor.

Hate my life now, i'm no closer to sorting the problem out!!

It could be the wiring loom from the height sensor, the bit you plugged into, they are well known for internal breaks or corrosion, so much so that they make a part loom replacement to splice in...

Plug your reader in, remove the arm on the sensor, move the sensor and see if the value changes, even if the reader is telling fibs, you would hope that the reading would still varie... Thumbs Up Pete

Absolutely spot on Pete :thumbs': all it's been good for was resetting the eas after it was overhauled. Stacker . Out of curiosity what does the i930 give you as a reading for resovoir pressure? Mines was miles out on it. 10 and half bar if I remember.. really poor imo..

Well I visited my LR techician friend tonight, he had his Snap on Solus diagnostic machine!

Turns out the iCarSoft was reading completely wrong and all my height sensors are working perfectly fine... looks like I could have bought a £85 genuine height sensor today for no reason!

Calibration was way out as well, which he has fixed Smile

My reservoir pressure reads 11.8 bar, which according to RAVE is correct.

A note to others who find this thread, up to VIN 106309 it should be 13.7 bar, from 106310 onwards should be 11.8 bar!
