The Australian Army has replaced all of its Land Rovers with G-Wagons. Rumour has it that they are less reliable and can't be repaired in the field like the Landies. (The Army Landies didn't have LR engines, they have Isuzu 3.9 diesels.)

I wonder if the AMG is any better? Ron B. VK2OTC

Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

Those Geländewagen things are horrible to drive , stiff as a billiard table base to try and cope with all the power but with stone age suspension with too little travel so at the first signs of a ripple in the tarmac it will just launch itself off the road and you pay a lot of money to look stupid and dead .Mostly driven by Rap Gangstas and Supermodels , nuff said. 2008 MY Supercharged

Germany 2013 Range Rover Vogue SE 5.0 SC V8 Havana

<---lives in the town where they are build - a friend of mine has one - they are uncomfortable and have half the space in the interior than an FFRR. Despite all that people seem to like them - we have tons of them on the streets - way more than FFRRs. Confused All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

To me, they are the German Defender.

Just as uncomfortable, just as flawed by having so little space inside and both command prices way above their worth.

England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

I looked at them when I bought mine, they have front and rear diff locks so pretty good off road, for the same money as fatty I was looking at an early 80's one with a little diesel engine... prices are just insane.... Pete

Agree. German Defender and all the good and bad that that implies. Put together better than a Defender and with a lot more creature comforts, but it's still very old old-school tech. Unfortunately, only available here with huge AMG petrol engines. It's the type of vehicle that makes a lot more sense with a torquey diesel.

Styled by Steve wonder, but the AMG has the best sounding exhaust of any car.
I hate them, they spoil the Merc brand for me, but lately I've gone off most of the current models by Merc.

They are losing their quality.

However, I'm aware that the wagon, is (as I understand) hand assembled.

Have had four of them, never really exploited their true off road potential. Yes a cult following like the defender, but it ends there. Far better put together, not like a colander, you don't need the window down to drive them, and a good turning circle. The early ones (G460 chassis) horribly underpowered but simple to fix and mod, the later ones a better bet as a daily but horrifically expensive for old technology. A very good pal restores them and does turbodiesel conversions that makes them far more sociable to drive.
Sold all of mine a year before the boom. Can't afford a 463.

They have moved on since the 460, I run a 2009 320 CDI fitted with the 3 litre V6 and it has massive torque and is very driveable.
Having had three FFRR,s they do not have quite the comfort but build quality is way ahead or LR.
It has heated seats, good sound system, xenons, satnav,TV, twin zone aircon,FBH with remote and three diff locks proper low box.
I also drive a D4 and whilst the G doesn't have the space inside it will get to places that the Discovery would struggle to. They do hold their price because in my opinion they are built to last unlike the LR alternatives. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem!!
