oily diff

Hi folks..pottering about cleaning up the underside of my fatty and noticed the front diffs a bit oily..don't know if its a seal going but there's not a great evidence of it on my driveway (lower engine covers removed)
I've had issues since I got the car as in when I select drive or reverse the car clunks/thuds and its not very smooth...if I gently select d or r its not as bad for some reason..? Don't know if its linked but thought it worthwhile highlighting it..car drives beautiful,no whine? Thanks

Managed to get car up on ramps today..looks like oils coming from higher up...signs of an old leak on the rocker covers...zero oil ever on my drive but underside of cars quite messy...

Well good and bad news. Good it does not look like a diff leak. Bad it could be from the upper engine as you have hinted.
Only one way to be sure it is only a minor v major leak is to tear down until you find it.
Hope it is just a replaceable gasket or hose that is leaking and can be resolved easy and quickly, fingers crossed.

Keep an eye on the oil level.

Everything's crossed Laughing ..oil levels don't drop dramatically tbh..not a drop in the ground in over 6 months of ownership..looks like its been happening for a while..first time I've been under the car and I was shocked at the mess...last owner never cared about the fatty by the look of it...im determined to get her mechanically perfect...I'm a big fan of the cars and it makes me smile everyday...even with its niggles Banging Head

The mess under the car could be the small 4" pipe from the oil separator. Mine was like chewing gum and had a small split in it. This was leading to the oily gunge coating everything underneath, but strangely like you, not a drop on the drive...

Good luck my friend. I'm going to do the air sus compressor next weekend, I've noticed it's a bit slow getting up to off-road height. It's not noisy or anything so looking at it as a bit of preventative maintenance.... ______________________________
