What causes FSR's to fail?

Just a querie really, I've had my TD6 for 6 or 7 years now and shes on her 3rd Final Stage Resistor, and I know they often fail leading to battery drains. Just wondered why they fail?

Or am I over-thinking? Confused

Probably built down to a price rather than up to a standard.

...and, of course, manufacturers expect large profits from replacement parts

Do you often drive with your A/C off? I think it's only a set of big resistors with a heatsink that's placed in the airflow near the HVAC fan, if I recall it's before the heater matrix but after the aircon? Maybe you're just overheating yours often.

Or it's just rubbish. Which is more likely.

This a problem we never had with the P38A - they didn't use an FSR for fan speed control. Ron B. VK2OTC

Just replaced mine so have been reading on it. 2 potential issues. 1. The part has been revised so probably tbe original design fell short. 2. If the blower starts to get sticky with bearing wear it stresses the FSR and shortens its life.
