OEM Service item costs - What the....!!!

I have decide to service the fatty myself.

Thought I'd have a chuckle and pop to my local MD for the item costs. Pollen Filter, 2x Aiir Filters, Fuel Filter, Oil Filter, 10litres Engine oil (Edge). 9 litres Auto box oil (I have access to the special tool required), 2 litres transfer case oil and 2 litres diff oil.....

£634.56!!!! oh and that's plus vat.... £761.47!!!! OMG, where are these prices coming from? Its only when you sit in a MD showroom for a while you realise how many overheads these places have got.

So, off to my local factors, a local indie supplier and Opie oils. Cherry picking the lowest prices of each item brought that bill down to £384.00 inc vat all for the same OEM spec stuff. Interestingly, nobody except the MD could supplier the fuel filter. The major cost saving was the Autobox oil down from nearly £400.00 to £129.00 just for shopping about.

I was very keen to ensure the stuff quoted on all met LR specs.

Challenge the costings with some other quotes for oem stuff and the MD parts guys will heavily discount!! Hunters seem especially fair at the moment just got my ARB drops for the same as ECP for the same ones. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had all my fluids changed last week - I told my local indie that I wanted all genuine parts as I've still got some warranty left.

When I went to collect it, he'd done everything except the gearbox as the fluid was close to £500 Shocked and the box was sealed for life.

After much ringing around of his contacts, we agreed that it should be done anyway at 60k regardless as I intend to keep the car for at least another 60k. He's currently figuring out a better source for me

The box fluid is PROBABLY zf lifeguard 8, might want to check tho.

It seems to be available for about £22 a litre on the tinterwebs from different places. So that comes out at about £200 for the quantity. Give Dan a shout as he was quite reasonable for lifeguard6 when I did the box on my 3.6. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

Oil for the E-diff is $200 a litre here and isn't available anywhere else , I dread to think what that lot would cost from our local cocaine distributors Shocked It's clever though isn't it oil is oil but change it's properties a little bit and and brand it and bob's your uncle five times the price .
