Key Stuck in the Ignition

I am new to the forum , so Hi to all members.

Has anyone any advice on removing a stuck ignition key?

I have had my nine year old Range Rover from new and its done just under 50,000 miles , so not a lot of use .
Just over two years ago the key stuck in the ignition and a new barrel was fitted , the problem recurred and a gearbox sensor cable was replaced .Apparently there is a safety lock which stops the key from being removed while the vehicle is in motion ! Well thats what I was told at the time .

Now the key has stuck again , I am told that the barrel needs replacing and because the previous replacement barrel is over two years old it is not under warranty . Can you believe that ? I am querying this with Land Rover but no luck to date .

I have seen a USA forum which refers to parking brake sensor problems and removing a solenoid from the steering wheel console to fix the issue . I am not a mechanic and therefore loathe to delve ! But equally I hate the thought of giving another thousand pounds to Land Rover .

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Howard

This seems to be a common solution.

Hamlet is exactly correct and his link worked for me when it happened.

My FF gets left unused for quite long periods and on return from 4 months away the key wouldn't come out. Liberal amounts of WD40 and 3 in 1 oil on the points in the picture and all was sorted. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

Many Thanks Lads . Problem sorted . It is still sticking intermittently but now I have a "fix" I can drive it without concern.
I am amazed that Land Rover didn't point out that in an emergency one can "override" the system . Perhaps it is buried in the manual somewhere !

Meantime my thanks once again.

Howard

Happened to me this afternoon. Clicked on the link and all sorted. God bless the Forum🙂. Is this supposed to be looked at in one of the service intervals? Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
