L322 slightly heavy power steering. Res is at top!

Hi! We picked up our latest l322 on Friday after a kindly drunk driver wrote our last one off. All is good, usual little things need attention, rear squirty not working, headlight washer blades need renewing, high level brake light needs new leds, bit of bubbling on rear wheel arch. Everything appears to be good, even the dash display isn't missing and pixels.
However the power steering is just a tad too heavy. The guys we bought it off had a replacement rack, pump, bcu and servotronic valve I think it's called, fitted. Still too heavy. I have noticed the psf is red in colour and filled almost to the top! Surely that can't be right? Do you think that could be the problem? Apparently they also checked the steering angle sensor and lubed the joints on steering column but have yet to check.

Fluid is the right colour, some have had problems with the BECM causing heavy steering, basically it doesn't tell the system what speed you are doing so it defaults to minimal assistance which is what you get at motorway speeds.

New BECM IIRC.... Pete

Hi. I put bcu, meant bcm. Which it has had a new one fitted. Have just been looking at the garage paperwork. Doesn't say anything about replacing the servotronic valve transducer. I can't see where it says the rack was replaced either but I was told it had a used replacement fitted.

Best to get it stuck on some diagnostics and see what that says... Thumbs Up Pete

Yeh think I will book it in at DLS. The only other thing on it that's not right is the fuel guage, I filled it right up and it only went to 3/4 full.

That's a known issue, costs a few hundred to fix, or live with it...

Sometimes frees off with use... Thumbs Up Pete

Hmm I will see if it fixes itself. It is an LPG car so maybe previous owner didn't use much petrol.

On the power steering front. I have noticed it's fine when in reverse.
