7 Seater SUV for the wife?

My wife wants to get get a new car. She loves her current Toyota Landcruiser V8 and would have another in a heartbeat - except they have stopped making them.

Her requirements are:

* Bigger than a Chieftain tank (she likes big)
* More solid than a Chieftain tank (she drives along the A14 so wants to come off best in a crash)
* Seven seats (despite us using seven seats about once a year)
* Elevated seated position (she is 5'0" so likes to sit high)
* Ultra-reliable (she wants to never be let down)
* NOT a Land Rover product (because she thinks they break down all the time)
* Top of the range

Cars I can think of that fit:
* Audi Q7
* Volvo XC90
* RR Sport (might persuade her that the Green Oval does not mean low loaders any more)
* New Disco (as above but she will think she's being fobbed off with the cheap car in the range)
* Tesla Model X (fails on the high seating, I think)

I'm counting out the regular Toyota Landcruiser as it is too downmarket for her (and a hateful thing IMHO).

Anything else?

The Audi and the Volvo whilst slightly higher than a normal car, aren't that high compared to an off roader.

Shame about the seven seats requirement because the VW Amarok or such like would fit the bill otherwise.

If she wants comparably high as the Cruiser and seven seats, it's a Shogun, Merc GLE & GLS (I think) or a D5 although the D5 is a lot lower than the D4 and Cruiser because it doesn't have a ladder chassis.

However, when it comes to Merc, you need to chose your dealer......if you think some LR dealers are bad, they positively shine in comparison.

Given those criteria, beginning to look like a bit like a LWB Shogun or another Land Cruiser. Whilst the the Q7 and XC90 are great vehicles, they are much more car-like and really don't have the presence on the road. None the worse for that in my view, but don't really meet the criteria.

I love how two LR vehicles have made it onto the shortlist despite one of the criteria being not a LR. A good try, but you won't win! Going from legendary Toyota reliability to that of a LR too much of a shock for anyone.

Budget? New or S/H or doesn't it matter? Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

There is no budget. New or ex-demo.

I'd forgotten about the GL. She looked at one when we bought the Landcruiser and didn't really like it. I'll put it back on the list.

The G Wagen - I forgot a requirement that the car be designed this century.

UK doesn't get the chintzy Lexus LX570 , Shogun is ancient and cheap feeling and the new Patrol although every bit as good as a Land Cruiser is not available so if it can't be a Green Oval product it really does come down to the GL . If it has to be properly big there is not that much choice in the space critical UK .

There is always this

That is what she'd choose, I'm sure.

After 2 colleagues at work have had the new XC90 T6 I have to say with a LC V8 budget I'd consider it. It's a big lump of a car, with 7 VERY good seats, excellent build and spec and it has a good turn of pace. I was very impressed. Interior and exterior seem to be very good.

Doesn't sound like she'd be a hybrid fan ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

A few extra seats but otherwise fits the request perfectly
