What Dog Guard to get?

Were getting a Staffie from a rescue home, he's a year and a half old.
I've been looking for a dog guard, but what type, should i get a simple retractable one or a full cadge type?
Any advice from dog owners appreciated

Cheers Dave Dave

We have a dog cage built by Athag (http://www.dogcages.uk.com ), it was bought for our P38 and has been modified to fit our L322, it has two escape doors on the front of the cage so if you get rear ended you can still get the dogs out. It is heavy and is a two man job to get it out, but very well made, this one must be at least 15 years old!

AKAIK, the retractable one is sold as a cargo guard although I guess it could double as a dog guard. Depends whether the dog chews or not though.

The half height (i.e. top half) is only good if you are going to carry the dog on the parcel shelf, I would suggest, as it doesn't protect the seat backs if the dog chews or scratches.

The full height obviously gives the option of carry in the boot or on the shelf although I would either make up a canvas cover or buy a seat cover to protect the headrests and seat backs because if dogs get stressed, they can cause lots of damage.

Not the most aesthetically pleasing but there is something to be said for the cage as mentioned in previous post.

Just a few pondering from a fellow dog owner.......I use a heavy duty rear seat cover and seat belt webbing attachment for a harness and the dogs sit on army blankets on the back. The cover and the blankets are both hard wearing and waterproof enough. If I wasn't so soft, I'd choose the fitted cage option.

In our cage both sides have very thick dog duvets fitted which have removable washable covers, so they are nice and comfy.

I wouldn't bother with the retractable net. It leaves two big gaping holes at either side, I sold mine and bought a half height dog guard. Current

I had a half height one for the L322. My dog doesn't chew or scratch. It works really well and is pretty easy to install and remove. The straps are annoying though.

I got an aftermarket perspex one for my L405, as the only one LR do is full height. It is great - worth looking at. Slightly fiddly to remove so not great if you often fold the seats flat.
