iPhone holder or cradle for L322

I've been wanting a phone cradle in the L322 for a while. I didn't really want the windscreen mount type, nor did I want to go drilling into the dash for a mounting point.

Proclip sell a plastic mounting system that doesn't require drilling. But it seemed a lot of money for a moulded piece of plastic. So I made my own from steel.

I already had a Brodit cradle that I relocated from my old 110.

I couldn't find much info on the net about DIY options so I thought I'd put this up. It might be useful. I decided to put the mounting bracket in the same spot as the proclip. It fits snugly in between the plastic screen surround and the plastic wood panel. I used a plastic spatular to open the gap a little then a flat screw driver to gentle open the gap a little more.

First I made a cardboard mockup of the mounting bracket. I used a piece of 50mm square tube to shape the steel sheet. I used a dremmel and snips to cut and trim the steel. The white strip is a piece of double sided tape. However, the bracket stays firmly in place without the adhesive cover strip being removed. So its really only held in place by pressure and resistance rather than any adhesive. Here's the pics from mockup to fitting.

Thanks. I still have the template. I might scan it so anyone can print it out, cut it out and then mark up the steel sheet.

But if you're in the U.K. the price of the plastic one is a lot lower than Oz. See below.

ok, thanks.

I have all the stuff available to make one, so even though they are not that expensive I do like to 'tinker'

I currently have a magnetic holder that was clipped into the top dash vent. This worked really well but now looking at putting the phone in slightly better location. Regards

Me too. I quite enjoyed knocking this up. It probably took about 1 1/2 hrs and cost me nothing (already had metal, paint & tools). Here's a pic of the template.

No worries.

You might notice that one edge is 60 mm and the opposite side is 58 mm (40+1Cool. This is so the face when folded tilts a little more vertical. However, given the cradle tilts this little mod is probably unnecessary. ______________________________

Do you have any other pics of it fitted from a distance to see the location better ? Also how is this fitted, just pushed into place - btw a great looking bit of kit ?

Ta BT. Yes I used a plastic spatular to open a gap between the centre radio surround and plastic wood panel to the left of the fuel gauge. I then used a flat screw driver to gently open the gap a little more. That was enough space to push the bracket with a piece of double sided tape into the gap. After taking out the screw driver, the pressure of the car's plastic panels holds it firmly in place. I hope this pic helps show the location.
