Heat resistant discs.???

Ok just to say this isnt a discussion on OEM vs aftermarket. Id just like to know whats the difference between the Ate discs listed at €114.89 and the visually identical Ate discs listed at €165.90. The only thing I can see is the dearer ones say heat resistant. What exactly does that mean.? They are both vented.! Similar story with the Ferrodo and Bosch which is what I normally go for on other cars Ive worked on. (I know some are listed as sold individually and some are sold as a set)

Are there 2 different versions available for the TD6.? They all seem to have identical measurements which is confusing me. Am I missing something obvious.?

It's usually the quality / purity of the metal - the higher quality ones dissipate heat more evenly and therefore more quickly with a lower likelihood of warping.

But like everything else in life, there is likely some additional mark up because of a premium brand name - more expensive isn't always better....

Somebody will probably reply to bite my head off but....

How can heat resistance be seen as a good thing when the function of brakes is to convert kinetic energy (ie motion) into heat?

Resistance to warping from high temperatures maybe, but resistant to heat generally...no.

I cant see the point of the extra expense myself. Its not like I track the car and have to worry about brake fade after a few laps. Very Happy

Im a lorry driver so I tend to just tootle around in it granpa style. Ive got a golf Gti and corrado for more spirited driving. 2002 TD6 Epsom Green
