Jag hits me in car park, then walks of caught on dash cam

Out shopping today with the wifey. when i returned to my parked car damage to the rear wing and bumper. Luckily, I have a dash cam that recorded it all! Have called the police on 101 and was told to fill in an on line form as the department that deals with it isn't open the weekend. Informed the insurance company, just need to send of video footage. There were two witnesses that are clearly seen on the dash cam footage taking photos of both cars. Unfortunately, they didn't leave any details on my windscreen. I'm hoping, as it clearly shows the Jag hitting me and his reg number, and the guy getting out and inspecting the damage to his car will be sufficient for the insurance company to pursue this as a non fault.

To say I was fuming would be an understatement. I will post off the footage to my insurance company on Monday and keep you guys updated. I've uploaded the two videos showing the beginning on you tube below - see link.

May I suggest removing the footage from the post and from YouTube?

There is a chance the other driver could be summonsed for Failing to Stop/Failing to Report a collision and being aired publicly could make things awkward, especially when the clips above are two seconds out.......... it's just the sort of thing a slimy defence brief would latch onto and wax lyrical about being already tried in the public arena etc etc.

Don't shoot the messenger; I have some experience with these things.

You've already saved the file but you need to secure the evidence properly for the court system to accept it.

Cheers Giantlandyman, i take on board what your saying. it was the insurance company that suggested putting it on YouTube so i could sent the link to them as evidence. But i said i'd send them DVD footage
The footage is in sync with no lag on my video,
It Censored me off when but i'll refrain for my real thoughts about these people that knowingly damage someone else's property and just ignores it. But i will pursue this in the courts if necessary Dave

It wouldn't be going before a jury so there is no issue with it being publicly visible...

Out of interest, do you leave the cameras powered the whole time? I have the Blackvue DR650GW single channel, but just ignition fed, I'm tempted to have it permanently live.

Hi Dan

take a look at my install. I use a power magic pro box, it monitors the votage so if it drops it turns the cams off, mine is set for 6 hours once parked

Interesting the Power Magic Battery Pack states it will run the dashcam for 12 hours using its 3000mAh battery.

The Battery in the RR is 110Ah
3000mAh is 3Ah every 12 hours or 6Ah for every 24 hours period.

Looking at those numbers, it shouldn't cause a problem starting unless the car was left for say 10 days?

Had a very similar incident middle of last year. Would not mind but I was dropping stuff off at a local charity shop at the time.

I managed to get their cctv from the car park to nail the Rat however she still tried to claim mine wasn't damaged. She then had the audacity to offer to have repaired at her cousins garage in "Bradford". I politely declined the offer and the police thought I was being unreasonable. I said she lost that right when she hit and ran.

No more than a scuff to mine TBH but, it till needs doing to keep the FFRR mint Thumbs Up

Sadly, it's become all too common for people to think it's ok to cause damage and then not to have the decency to own up. Shocked

Thankfully Dave you had your dash cam footage. Hope it all works out in your favour but I bet it won't be easy to sort. Big Cry

Good luck. Thumbs Up 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

No fault on the insurance, yes, but I'd like to see the police take an interest. Here we call that 'hit and run' and 'failing to remain at the scene of an accident'. Both are illegal.

Was out last summer with a friend. His van was hit in a car park by an Asian woman who wasn't used to driving LHD. She waited in her car for OVER TWO HOURS in order to apologize in person and provide her insurance details when we returned. While my friend was, obviously, not too happy about the state of his van, we couldn't fault her ethics and sense of responsibility. It made the best of a bad situation and meant he didn't have any hassle with insurance getting it fixed. Condolences your situation is rather different.
