Whistle I think that you need to be looking at the injectors Whistle

On the TD6 it gives you a real time readout as to the amount of compensation the injectors are applying to maintain the idling it gives uit as a +/- reading.. I think mine were all between -2 and +1, where as my pals were -2 to +6 for number 5 injector.... turned out to be a knackered bore / rings Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Shocked Now your asking, without plugging it all in I couldn't tell you, and I've just come from being out there for 2 hours while my screen was changed... I will have a look in the daylight, but it might be a BMW thing Rolling Eyes

Might it be worth a question to Canada? they should be able to point you in the right direction... I have to confess that the IID tool only gets plugged in when something has gone wrong, and I haven't been using the car that much recently Embarassed I have never delved in to the workings of the tool and changed every setting... I didn't want to tempt fate Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I'm with miggit, if you turn that tickover trace upside down it looks a bit like this......

يتم تقسيم عن طريق الحقن

Which is arabic for "my injectors are broken"

Sorry, I'll get me coat.... Whistle Pete

Sorry Stan, just said that for the effect... I'm no good with diesels... sounds plausible but who knows... the dealers should have access to a mobile master tech who should be able to sort it, ask them to get some help if they can't fix it... Thumbs Up Pete

Whistle Are you sitting comfortably, then I shall begin......

Once upon a time Shocked

Basically a Dersal lump has a mas-hoosive flywheel to smooth out the lumpy running and aid in vibration dampening at low revs.... That is why a dersal can tick over at a few rpm and most petrol engines revs their nuts off on tick over Rolling Eyes This however has a couple of drawbacks... one is because of the increased flywheel mass it is slow the rev up and this also limits the top end revs (for safety, they tend to run away and then Shocked Big Cry ) and the other is that a misfire is a lot harder to detect Sad

Why do I think it's injector related... at 72K you are in to the realms of dirty injector malfunction milage.. I would normally expect this to kick in at around 100K +/- 20K, but your engine is close to that, so I wouldn't rule it out. Plus diesel injectors tend to clog up which effects the lower pressure running more than flat out full throttle running...i.e. it will idol badly but still appear to be A OK when going full tilt.

My TD6 was suffering from constipated injectors for best part of 6 months, and I thought it was the TCC playing up Embarassed it was only at the point that it decided that enough was enough and 2 injectors went on an all out strike, did I discover the problem Sad

Your complaining of a vibration.... because you can't see anything obvious hanging off the engine it must be an internal thing... so the vibration is being caused by some thing not running in perfect balance... and semi clogged injector will cause that imbalance, and as your revs increase the large flywheel effect will take over and smooth out the missing power stroke. Thus making it undetectable at higher rpm's Thumbs Up

Then you state that it's a warranty job.. your local stealer will do absolutely everything not to replace the injectors... LR don't do injector cleaning, or testing, so it'll be 8 x £ Shocked or try a bodge it past the warranty date so it's your problem and not theirs Evil or Very Mad Your not the first person with a lumpy TDV8, there was some one local to me, but I've forgotten who, and they had the same problem.. but the stealers managed to faff about and get it out or warranty... turned out that it was dirty injectors, if memory serves me right they were blaming it on TCC, which wasn't covered Rolling Eyes Now I'm not sure if Testbook will show live injector data, so they could be running blind, but hopefully you can find the right screen, and if there is a noticeable difference in the readings, demonstrate it to the stealer and get some new free injectors Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... I don't know what's involved with that drain fix, if the engine has been apart then it is unheard of some dirt getting dislodged and is now causing a restriction in the fuel line.... it could be a bad electrical connection... I've never heard of that in the same phrase as Range Rover Laughing

Stan does say that he can physically feel it when he places his hand on the top of the engine... so faith healing isn't working Rolling with laughter Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

that's a lot of sense there Paul, thank you..

Pat has shown me which screens to go to on the iidtool and what perameters i should looking for....this i will do over the weekend ...

maybe a bit of crud did work its way to the injectors somehow cos according to the tsb for this job it does involve making sure no sworf from the drilling should get into the engine...

btw faith healing and cussing both don't work.. Laughing

no probs Mark,

menu
live values
untested
in search box enter ''injector''
this comes up with ''injector balance values''
values should be 1000 with a variance of 100 up or down..

edit, this sequence doesnt work, well not on mine anyway ...Pat will advise on monday..
