Depends on how much it is really and what make they use.

Brakes aren't that difficult to change yourself and probably at a much lower cost than Halfords for a set of genuine parts. But each to their own, and I suppose if you had any issues you could just go back and they would give you a new set! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I agree with NMJ. Brake pad (and indeed, disc) changes are really easy on a FF and you're better spending the money on good quality parts rather than labour.

Brakes don't need doing that often, so the 'for life' thing seems a bit of a waste. Si. <This is my name.

It's straight maths - how much do they charge and how long do you expect to keep the car for ?

Do they do genuine pads - I would doubt it but don't know.

I would expect you'd need 2-3 sets off them to be showing a profit on the deal

Worth considering that the last set of pads I put in the work hack have done 70k miles and still have 30% left. Put it this way, Halfords aren't stupid, they're in business to make a profit. Some bean counter will have worked this out in depth and they won't lose money on the majority of cars they do.

Genuine pads and discs from Dan. Fit them yourself and relish the savings. OE parts, you've done it so you know it's right, and a couple of hours away from the wife's list of 5 minute jobs. What's not to like?

If I am correct, the deal only covers the pads and not the discs. Regards

...and if you are correct, then you can bet that the discs will need to be changed at a cost every time the pads are changed.

just looked on their website are it says

"With Brakes4Life (exclusive to Halfords Autocentres) you only pay for one set of brake pads or shoes, then the rest are free, forever - as long as you own a vehicle!"

no mention of discs, which is the expensive part of the pad/disc setup

concerning quality parts :

Do you use quality parts?
Yes - at Halfords Autocentres we only ever use OE (Original Equipment) equivalent parts

and it also mentions:

This unique offer is transferable to all future cars you own - so might save a bit, but will probably get stung on the price of the discs Whistle Regards

These offers are not to be scoffed at. I had a full exhaust fitted to my previous Discovery by Kwikfit under a similar offer and by the time I sold the car 12 years later I had a further two exhausts fitted and all the rubber hangers changed every couple of years at no cost. Good value in my opinion. Thumbs Up

If you read the small print I am 99% sure that to qualify for the replacement pads you have to have any other work done by them at the same time that they identify. This was certainly the case about three years ago when I worked for VW and we were looking at cost comparisons.

Is there any aftermarket/third party part that can’t be described as “OE equivalent”? That looks like wonderful spin to me Rolling Eyes
