Flashing sidelights

Ok - I jumped in and changed the sidelights for leds at the weekend (nice effect) but I notice that when I turn the ignition on they flash alternately. I assume this is the canbus and it does stop when I start the car or if I turn on the lights, but will this fail the mot? QUID FACIUM TIBI

It's the cold monitoring.. the cars checking if all bulbs are ok and sends a pulse which causes the leds to flash.. won't fail mot.. you can disable it with the iid tool

I recently changed my front sidelights and reversing lights for LEDs. They work fine but throw up an error. I take it that the forthcoming MOT will not penalise me, or do I need to put originals back in? Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
Galaxy 2001-2007
Mondeo Estate 1997-2001
Sierra Estate 1993-1997
Uno Turbo 1987 -1993
Fiesta 1984 - 1987

I've not mastered my iiD yet - is disabling the cold monitoring straightforward ? I've just fitted LED sidelight bulbs and noticed the flashing Laughing

Really easy to do.. go into ccf files and select Lcm and switch cold monitering off on all the lights that are flashing when you put the key in.. takes minutes

For those of you who can't find enough dosh to get an IID tool, it is possible to turn off LCM monitoring on BMW Nav cars using NavCoder....

A BMW Nav car is one that doesn't have touch screen as standard 2002 - 2004.5 ish but there are a few 2005 cars that have the old system Shocked

If you have the touch screen system then AFAIK the Gap IID Tool is the only thing that will do it, or use error free canbus bulbs... but they aren't foolproof Whistle Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Interesting the comment re error free canbus bulbs not being foolproof - the ones I acquired were advertised as error free, does that mean that we cannot necessarily trust advertisements? Is there a tried and trusted make/supplier that we should use? QUID FACIUM TIBI

All an error free bulb is, is a normal LED with an added resistor to give a similar load to a filament light bulb, the resistor bit can fail and the LED will still work, but the LCM will see it as a failed bulb. I have had an "error free" LED that was fubar'd from the word go Evil or Very Mad

If your getting error messages from new LED's it would pay to substitute them out, one at a time with a normal bulb, just incase you've been given a dud Rolling Eyes As far as I can remember the screen of Doom can't distinguish between left and right, so 1 iffy bulb could be causing you a whole lot of Bong Evil or Very Mad Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
