It really isn't that difficult to do. I managed to find the two connectors (6 pin and 3 pin) in the boot of a BMW at the local scrapyard. They charged me £1!
I spent ages looking for a ready made connector harness as mentioned here - http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post264562.html
But they were nowhere to be found..... Sad

I've got details of how to swap the pins. It's very easy. I bought the two plugs from an X5. All the pins are numbered, just follow the guide.

These are the plugs. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E46-E39-X5-E...Sw8w1X6B4H No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

Those plugs are readily available on the bay of fleas.. do a search for "CD plugs" BMW, MG, Rover, Range Rover etc Thumbs Up

Info here on the correct wire / pin locations http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic26808.html?highlight=10+pin

Whistle there were a lot of posts on how to leave X amount of wires in the old plug, I found all the correct positions for all wires Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

That's a great help. Thanks buddy! I presume the other connector I unplugged which actually fits in the ibus connection to the intravee should just be plugged back in and ignored?

Whistle Yup and there we have it..... earth wires left behind..... if they weren't needed then BMW / LR wouldn't have put them there in the first place and saved a few miles of cable in the process Rolling Eyes

alistairh, buddy you have the list Wink , and yes you are correct in thinking that you don't need it move the 3 pin wires are they are already present in the connection that unplugs from the 10 pin loom Thumbs Up

So to recap, you need to transfer the wires / pins from the 10 pin plug to the 6 pin and use the already wired 3 pin plug that's in the loom Mr. Green Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I found that the pins came out of the plug easily, the tricky bit is getting the plug inner out of the outer Shocked Don't give up, and a selection of small (jewelers) screwdrivers is a big help Thumbs Up

Also I'd be inclined to remove the 10 pin wires first... say practice on the 3 wires from the 3 pin plug / socket a few inches up the loom... that way if you cock it up, there's no foul as they aren't required Rolling Eyes Once you've mastered the removal of the 3 unused connections you'll be in a good place to transfer the pins 1 at a time to the 6 pin plug Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Well that's it finally fitted. Quite enjoyed the re-pinning part tbh . It doesn't look too organised in there but I've managed to tuck about 40 foot of cable through the small gaps at the roof of the glove box.
Nearly spat the dummy out at one point when it was all wired up and it wouldn't switch on..I had forgotten to put the fuse back Laughing ..thanks again guys for the pointers..
