iPod connection

Hi guys,

Quick question. I just bought myself an iPod lead for the car plus an adaptor as I have a newer iPhone when I connect it all up it says connecting to iPod and then says device error!!

Is this because I'm using an iPhone rather than an iPod or is this a different issue?

Many thanks

Ash

I think your problem is the 'adapter' as well as the iPhone - you'd be OK with an older iPhone & no adapter.....

The old connector had a set of analogue outputs - which is what the car needs.

The newer connector is all digital.

The adapter doesn't do digital to analogue conversion, just maps the digital pins & the power.

Ahh ok. That makes sense. I think I have an old iPod somewhere. I'll dig that out and see if that works as I won't need to use the adaptor then. Thanks for the advice 👍🏻

is it a proper apple adapter?

the cheaper ones dont have the DAC in them and as Alistair says they need this to send the analogue signal to the car.

It should work with a genuine apple adapter though i can go and check if you want. alternatively get a Bovee/tune2air which are sporadically on amazon and go bluetooth.

I've just tried it with an older iPod and it works perfect. It must be to do with the adaptor I bought to convert it so it fits a new iPhone. No real issue, makes use of my old iPod I suppose. Now just a shame I can't get the Bluetooth to work to allow calls!
