Haven't done the job myself, but to do it by the book, it's a hub off job.
there is a write up on here somewhere, chap cut his in two, can't remember if he welded a piece of steel on two edges, then bolted the two halves together, but it's a pita.
if your backplate isn't too bad, there is another write up in wiki to strengthen the part where the pins go through, I have done this on mine.
have a search in the wiki, top right of page on here.
greg.

Depending how far gone the splash guard is you can get a fair few more years out of them and it saves the hassle and expense.

Order a Mk3 ford fiesta rear brake shoe fitting kit and use the pins, buttons and springs, a washer on the pin at the rear spreards the load even further.

probably find them cheaper but this was first google hit. Current

I think Greg might be referring to me!

To replace it properly, you have to take the hub etc. Off and my hub nut is literally corroded on! Instead I cut the shield in half, and riveted a small metal strap to it, then a nut and bolt through the other side! You could potentially weld it on but will be a pain to hold and weld together!

You can strengthen it, might be worth a search as Greg said.

Well a big thanks to the Forum and in particular Andtgts .(probably others as well - this thread was the most recent)

Rear brake pins pulled through the back plate yesterday, bought the escort pins as per Andy’s suggestion and fitted them today all sorted and one happy bunny.

This forum is a cracker well done to all that contribute Thumbs Up

ps Is it only me that loses at least the skin of one knuckle when working on a FF!! Rolling with laughter (dam handbrake springs)!!

Cheers

Simon
