MOT Query

My work hack (C5) is in for it's MOT later this week but is missing one of it's front spotlights. It disappeared when I hit a piece of debris on the motorway Shocked

So, my query is:
a) Will it fail an MOT on the missing spotlight
b) Should I remove the other one as well
c) Should I replace it before the MOT (assuming I can find another one)

I was told previously, that anything installed has to work. However, if it's optional and not installed, that's fine.

My dispute involved lights I'd fitted but not wired up yet - I borrowed a spanner and removed them and all was OK Rolling Eyes

Hmmm, these are standard fitment spotlights so may not get away with it.... Rolling Eyes 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Standard fitment or not, unless they are required to be fitted under construction and use regs then you're OK to remove them.

Front fogs are not required. They are not even required to be in pairs when a single one is fitted.
Rear fogs are for post 1979 cars. Again only a single one on the offside of teh car is required.
Front spots are not required, same as front fogs. Quite legal to have just one.
Anything fitted has to work but there is nothing to stop you removing non-essential items including spare wheels etc.

It's all a bit of a farce TBH.

Thanks mzplcg. Makes it a bit easier if I don't have to faff about before the MOT.

And yes Frank, a C5 Citroen.....I did say it was my work hack...... Rolling Eyes

Worth nothing but its done 260,000 miles and saves the mileage on my Westie. Thumbs Up 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I think the single spot is ok as long as it is in the middle - in fact you can have as many as you want as long as they are paired at equal distance from the outer edge and any odd one in the middle. I dont think their laws are the same as ours, but I once saw a very old (1920's?) yank car with two headlights and a what looked like 20" plus centre spot! QUID FACIUM TIBI

Disconnect the one which is remaining, that way you have none, or simply take out the fuse. Shouldn't be a problem as they are not required or tested as part of the MOT as has been said. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks all

Decided to dig out the spare spotlight from the attic and stuck it in this afternoon, so all seems ok.

Cheers. Thumbs Up 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
