rear camera saga.

on Tuesday I eventually got round to fitting a cheap rear facing camera to my Autobiography. Spent some time ensuring all wires were as hidden and neat as possible and mounted the camera with suction cup supplied to the top of rear screen. off on a trip round for half an hour and all is good, removed card and inserted into laptop to view the pics and for a very cheap camera the results are very good.
Fast forward to 5 o'clock on Wednesday morning and all hell lets loose, I am woken to the sound if my car alarm blasting away outside and my phone ringing at the side of my bed. trying to answer the phone and simultaneously getting some clothes on in semi comatose state is no mean feat I can tell you. by the time I get down stairs the alarm has stopped and I can see from the porch that no one is about so I reassure the guy from In Control who is still on the line that all appears well. I return to bed but sleep is not easily attainable. up again at six and it is nagging at me what could be the cause of this "false" alarm. turns out the suction cup and window had parted company and the camera is now dangling on its power lead and the alarm sensor has picked this up. on closer inspection the rear screen heater element stands slightly proud of the glass so the suction was doomed to failure. uninstalled the whole kit now because I cannot find another way of mounting to the glass. If you use suction cups on the back window it's best to run a thin line of Copydex or UHU around the edge of the cup before sticking it on the glass. This sort of seals it over the heater elements but being only a semi permanent glue it can be removed if you want.
