Why does my full fat eat airflow meters?

My full fat has been facelifted to 2010/12, and as a result the standard air box has been replaced with a cone type air filter (not K&N but similar).
I've had the car 11 months but I'm now on the 3rd airflow meter, admittedly the replacements have all been secondhand ones.

Could this be related to my air filter or is it simply bad luck? 2012 Westminster 4.4 TDV8 (sold)

has the air filter got oil on it?

K&N filters are oiled so if its similar then it could be your problem.

You'll need a dry filter like a jetex Current

As stated previously, oiled filters destroy Mafs.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
Its a dry stainless steel mesh filter made by Drift.

The mesh doesn't seem particularly fine, but there's no evidence of dust or oil/moisture in the airflow meter.
