Coil pack

G,day, can anyonehelpwith a coil pack problem, my 2004 4.4 has an intermitant missfire at idle speed, this is slowly getting worse and today i even experianced loss of power under acceleration. How can i identify which cylinder is missing. All advise is appreciated. Big Cry

Could you turn the engine off when the problem is manifesting itself, take the plugs out and see which are wet with unburned fuel? I recall doing that with a RR Classic when there was a coil short problem, alas some of the plugs could not be shifted. I expect there is a more sophisticated method using a meter on the electrics, or plugging into diagnostics. Only Range Rovers since 1988

As CS says, take all your plugs out to look for an odd one and then swap the coil pack with a plug that looks good and see if it moves and diagnostics with live data like a faultmate will give you a roughness value for each cylinder

Thanks for the replys, but the miss is irregular and buy the time i let the engine cool down and get the plugs out i may not see any difference. I have the iidtool but that doesn,t show anything. I have one new coil pack and i suppose i could swop it over with No. 1 plug and then No. 2 and so on, but that would be a real hit and miss(no pun intended). Rolling with laughter

If a cylinder has been behaving badly for a while you may see a difference in the carbon deposit on it rather than it just being wet as i think the injector is turned off for the cylinder that isn't sparking, I only read that somewhere so not sure if that is true though ...
