My 2003 4.4 v8 is losing water, I think I have traced it to the small circular piece in the centre of the picture below, this item seems to be a small valve of some sort with the central 'nipple' being able to be pressed in. This pipe seems to go into the water pump. It does seem to constantly weep water one the engine is up to temperature. I am having to top up the water daily doing about 20 miles. Am I correct or is the leak somewhere else?

Just did the lower thermo stat mod on mine today and changed the upper hose (the one you've got pictured) and the lower hose. Mine was leaking from just behind the plastic bit in the picture where it joins the rubber hose.

Also that hose is definitely past it's best. The plastic bit that is brown should really be black. It will probably disintegrate when you try to take it off.

May also be losing water from the water pump bearings which mean replacing the pump!

May also be a gasket. Check the oil filler top for white mush.

That's a lot of water u are losing!

+1 for changing any hose where the plastic end cap is brown. As has been mentioned it would probably break when you try to take it off and as these cars run very hot it may well give way under pressure.

I would recommend carrying out the thermostat mod as it lowers the temps right down and the car just feels more relaxed.

That fitting doesn't have enough build up on it to be the cause of that much water loss.

What can you see from below the car, especially in the area of the radiator? Has the radiator ever been replaced? What pressure cap is it, 200 or 140kPa (look underneath the cap)? Ron B. VK2OTC
