Interior LED upgrade debacle

Hola inmates,

I've got a 57 Plate 4.2SC. Tried upgrading the interior bulbs to LED (speaking only of the T10s now). The boot and the dome lights were alright to begin with. Trouble started with the door panel ones. When I replaced the first door panel one, it seemed to light up for a sec and went out, taking all the other door panel bulbs out too. I thought it was probably because the LCM got a bit paranoid with 1 LED and the rest still being on filament, so went ahead and changed all door panel ones to see if it'll correct itself. No joy - none of the door panels now light up, but also the boot and the ceiling ones which previously lit up have also gone duff.

Funnily the car threw a "suspension fault" just as I changed the bulbs.

I've now changed back to filaments on the door cards and waiting for the computers to completely switch off. I'll go back in another 5 mins to see if they are back to life.

Any thoughts? The Leds were advertised as CANBUS compatible.

Cheers

Interesting Stan. Any thoughts on the suspension fault which seemed to coincide with me putting the bulb in.

The interior bulbs won't throw a fault as they aren't part of the canbus system. Exterior will as they are monitored. I can't see how they would affect the eas system tbh? I found my first batch would flicker, replaced the flickering led then instantly the next door led would do the same then the process would repeat.. ended up being poor quality leds. Once I replaced them everything was good..definitely worth double checking the fuse.

Going mad now. Replaced all leds back to candles to see if that would brings the interior lamps back on. Ripped the interior lamp fuse out to reset and see if that does it. Pulled the battery out to see if it would help. Despite all of this - the interior lamps don't light up and to top it all, the car is sticking its fingers up to me with a suspension fault message which seemed to appear the minute i put the leds in.

Can someone throw any ideas in? It's effin bulbs at the end of the day!

Try a battery disconnect, as when I did mine, the boot lights went out altogether. So I did battery disconnect, and all was well.
Don't forget lock to lock, that should reset it.

Haven't tried locking unlocking. Will give it a go now.

Battery disconnect tried mate - did'nt budge.

Getting a full reset of codes tomorrow AM to see if that gets rid of the suspension fault message.

Any links to the leds others have gotten working successfully

No joy with the lights after code reset using a diagnostics reader. Also tried lock unlock cycles.

Front right ride height sensor fault has appeared which was never there and it's appearance coincided with plugging the first led bulb in. The dash lights for PDC, DSC, rear cabin air flow button don't light up along with the interior lights. PDC works but just the indicator light on the dash doesn't.

The lights on the climate control section of the dash works fine.

Pulling hair out.

I had the suspension fault issue when changing the dome lights. The interior lights stopped working and the fuse was fine. I just locked the car and left it for a few hours and it seemed to reset itself with everything working fine. Weird but does not surprise me with LR electronics being what they are. Tom

A couple of notes that may help you with your install:
- I did not do a wholesale replacement of all bulbs at once, but went bulb-by-bulb to make sure that one worked before moving on the next one
- Replacment process as follows: a) I opened the doors, b) turned off the lights by hitting the center map light button, c) replaced the stock bulb with the LED, d) turned the lights on by hitting the button again, e) checked to see if the bulb is working, f) if not, I closed the doors and locked the vehicle with the remote, g) then opened the doors and checked the light again for illumination
- This process often worked to get the bulb to light up - if it didn't, I reversed the polarity and repeated the process
- Not sure why locking and opening the doors made a difference, but I believe that the electrical circuit resets itself and that is why the lights worked afterward

I love the new look with the LED interior - very distinctive and modern looking, although it is a 'cool' white that may / may not be as appealing at night if you have the tan interior (the stock bulb's light color was wamer). I will take a picture at night and post so you can see the difference.
Led bulbs must be fitted with correct polarity so if they do not work you have the polarity crossed, sometimes bulb holders allow you to fit bulbs the wrong way around ..good luck !
