'Scraping noise' offside wheel/s - sounds brake related

TDV8 4.4 Autobiography. (2012)

On slow speed left bends, especially under braking load, there is a distinctive 'scraping noise' from the front offside wheel. May be rear, hard to tell!

It sounds as though the pads are scraping on the discs?? Or there is a part that rubs under increased load on slower left bends. This is pronounced under slight braking also.....

Any ideas anybody?

Been in to Land Rover and they don't know what it is. There was a thought the 'dust/dirt cover' may have warped or been bent slightly whic was leading to the scraping noise under load. Didn't seem to be that. Planning on giving it to them for a day to try and find/locate/fix the issue.

Help??

Thanks in advance!

Although mines a td6, I had this, it turned out to be the rear brake shield rubbing.
I managed to get a longish screwdriver from underneath, and prise the Shield slightly away.
may work for you.
Greg. Thumbs Up

Thanks - the level 4 mechanic/technician thought that may be it but it is now worse if anything - which I guess means it MAY actually be that but needs proper TLC ....

Will let them have it to investigate further.

I've had a calliper seize a few times, twice on the rear once on the front - and that makes the noise described. The side that seizes (usually only one side of the calliper) wears its pad away and the scraping noise is the worn away pad scoring the disc. If you catch it early you may get away with just freeing off the calliper and a pad change, but more likely new disc, calliper and pads....

But if it is that, then you would have thought that your mechanic would have seen it straight away.... Mike - MPx

It's all within warranty but if brakes related, I'm sure it will be 'wear and tear'!!
The noise isn't constant and only appears under load on left bends/turns ....
Will come back when we know what it is!

Probably the dust shield on the front ,one of the holes will have rusted round the bolt and it'll be moving and catching , quite a few threads on it in here , on my td6 I just cut them off and didn't bother replacing them.

Finally.....

After my noise becoming unbearable and escalating this to LR customer services, it appears that the experienced ROADSIDE assistance chap, found it and sorted it.

Some sort of retaining Spring - lower brake pad anti rattle Spring!

Seems it was broken so he bent it 'out of the way' - will need replacement.

A lovely and brilliant technician. Thatnk you if you read these.....

So there we have it!
