I think you'll find that it is required for the MOT, unless you've found a blind tester.. If you want it De-catted then the only trouble free way that I know is remove it and either brake out the innards with a long screwdriver / chisel, or cut open the top (not seen part ) gut it and weld it back up.. One way is quick but requires welding skills, and the other is tedious and time consuming.. but most monkeys should be able to do it

I managed to find the company on e-bay who were doing the Td6 de-cat pipes, they also do quite a few for BMWs. I messaged them but they never came back to me.
