2003 4.4 petrol struggles to fire when hot.

Some advice please.
I've had problems starting my 4.4 V8 L322 since December when it wouldn't start at all during temps below zero.
Once the weather had warmed up it started from "cold" without any problem.
Once hot though, 50% of the time it will crank over (very healthy speed) and then splutter into life seeming to be firing on only a few cylinders but then it clears and runs perfectly. The other 50% of the time it fires up straight away.
Once running is seems to run perfectly.
The engine management light would also randomly come on whilst driving.
Fault codes showed 2 lambda sensors were knackered. All 4 lambdas were replaced but still struggled to start.
Since then the following have been replaced:
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
Fuel purge valve.
Local independent garage (Mansfield 4x4 in Bury St Edmunds) don't know what to do now.
Engine light is on again, showing P0430 - Bank 2 CAT Efficiency Below Theshold.
Can anyone suggest where I should look to get the starting problem sorted please, which may well be related to the most recent fault code,...... getting fed up with garage bills and not curing the problem.
Thanks

HiDavid have you had the plugs done ? Check for air leaks and possible oil leak on rocker cover gasket contaminating plugs and coils .Dirty injectors? Is she Lpg?. Good luck

I replaced the plugs about a year ago, some 5,000 miles. There was oil in the plug holes so the cam cover gaskets do ideally need replacing.
Would a faulty coil pack not create a fault code ?
It's the absence of fault codes that Merelander 4x4 are struggling with, they don't know what to look for.
I'd like to know if anyone can recommend another independent LR specialist who understands the BMW 4.4 engine. 2002 4.4 V8 with LPG

I would definitely check coils nor doing any harm giving them a clean . Misfire will throw up all ki nds of probs especially when it is intermittent .Will also damage catts

Thanks. Will do.
Do you know which side of the engine is "Bank 2" as this is the bank causing the engine light to come on ? 2002 4.4 V8 with LPG

Hi David,

Bank two is on the left side / near side when sitting in the drivers seat on a RHD vehicle.

Regards

John

Thanks Rik
Yes I have LPG installed, a Romano system installed in 2006.
I've just booked the car into a LPG installer to see if anything is wrong with that system as the car will unexpectedly cut out on LPG and I have to run on Petrol.
Are you aware of specific issues when a LPG system is fitted ?
Cheers

Yes eml light can come on intermittent fault codes pointing to lean mixtures at lamda mine been doing it for years no prob just gas to clean .Gas service should fix any problems .How long since last service ?I changed out vaporizer and filters as well as injector cleaner this year suspected diaphragm leak not expensive .Gas injectors need a clean now and then .As with petrol ones . lpg can be problematic if not serviced reg . Quite difficult to get a lpg engineer who realy knows his nuts found a good one in Edinburgh bottom of Leith little back street garage but has all the kit and not expensive good luck

Thanks Rik
I had the LPG serviced about 3,000 miles ago but I'm not confident that much was done as part of the service and I'm not returning to that particular LPG "Specialist".
Hopefully the place I'm booked into for next week will have a proper look and sort it.
Cheers

If you're getting consistant lean codes when on lpg you do have an issue and risk valve damage
Its NOT normal on a well set up system

Check also for air lock in cooling system as vaporizer needs to be water heated to work and is first to suffer if air locked could be the reason why she switches to petrol
