3.6 TDV8 Shift Solenoid Change Out

Anyone changed out a 3.6 TDV8 Shift solenoid?

I'm assuming mine is dead as I have the dreaded 'range change not available'. Cleaned out the contacts and have a nbew battery but still won't play.

Is it possible to do the change without the diagnostic tool? I have a code reader but it won't energise the solenoid.

I know from RRPhil's Tx box tear down that it can be removed without energising - do you think I can just energise it witha striaght 12v to the terminals?

Any hints and tips appreciated.

LR changed mine on my 3.6 and I think it was pretty straight forwards, they thought it was leaking from there but it turned out to be from the high low position senor. Check the contacts on that too. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the tip, I'll check the contacts on the position sensor too. Pretty sure that's ok as its still allowing me to drive and showing position in 'high' just not allowing changes.

Of course it could be the transfer case ECU Sad , but the code suggests its on the TX case itself.

Always a possibility the cable itself is damaged, it didn't look in the best condition. I might have to try and find a way to check the continuity and insulation of that too. 2007 TDV8
