Need to top up the engine oil but no funnel/filler?

While I was on holiday last summer I checked the engine oil and it was a little low so, having a 5litr pack of Castrol in the box in the boot I decided to top it up. Which was when I found I had left my oil filling funnel at home. Pouring oil in the strong winds of Tiree isn't easy without dribbling oil over the top of the engine cover so a quick recce of the garbage bin soon got me a 1.5litre drinks bottle - washed it out and removed the screwtop then cut the base off - heypresto a funnel as long or as short as you want it and if you retain the screwtop you can seal it again to clean up unused oil in the neck of the bottle with a rag without dripping even more oil over the engine top. The 5litre oil can's extended spout is not easy to get under the bonnet of the FFRR and also tip it to get the contents out without a major oil spill. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I have a cut of pop bottle that I have been using for years. Probably lasted longer than a proper funnel, and a hell of a lot cheaper! Very Happy

This approach is also useful for screenwash filling operations on my A4 Cab .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Use a milk bottle carton - then the funnel incorporates a handle!
