England 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black
EGR temperature sensor

I have had my car plugged in and been told the EGR temperature sensor is sending rogue signals and needs replacing.

I have been told it is 5 hours labour as buried in the engine 2012MY 4.4 TDV8

The car drives fine - what does this temp sensor do ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

You know when you think I have just typed something stupid - a temp sensor obviously measure temperature !

What I meant was what does this do in the grand scheme of things and the health of the car. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

I replaced mine in far less than 5 hours only to have the new one throw the same fault within a few weeks. From other reports it appears that the fault can be ignored. I didn't notice any difference when the new sensor was new.

Hi. I have got this issue at the moment, seems it connected to fault code P245A and P040A

The first code points to the exhaust
The second points to s sensor in the coolant pipe below the expansion tank. This on tells the EGR valve to open to allow cooling.

The dealership changed one, but it's still got the same fault, has I type it's getting the other this morning..

Hi, I had a fault with EGR sensor, fault code P0486-17 (27) Exhaust gas recirculation sensor B circuit - General electrical failure - circuit voltage above threshold

Turned out to be a faulty throttle body. A lot quicker to replace than the EGR and sensor.

Go figure.......

What lead you from that error code to a throttle body replacement...? Mine has the same code also..

What is the fault code you have exactly?

The code that CAN be safely ignored is P040(D) because that is the passenger side manifold temperature sensor. The sensor is calibrated to read a certain range and if the range is exceeded, it throws up that fault and from my research, all or most 4.4 TDV8s will have this and have it recurring.......

I wouldn't ignore the P040(A) or any other letter other than 'D" until you have concrete info. It may not be the sensor but something else and as it's EGR related.........

So that is safe to just ignore and carry on than...

Yes. Had it verified by Land Rover CS, Land Rover Technical, a dealer workshop manager and an indy.

The dealer had it in and diagnosed the throttle body after an indi couldn't work it out.

Seems to be fixed now though.

That sensor not working will stop the DPF regenerating on the car.

Ours has just had that sensor changed at 13k miles. The dealership managed to snap it in the manifold so had to remove the engine to get the manifold off. They sent the manifold to a machine shop to get the sensor removed and they couldn't get it out so they ended up fitting a new manifold.

Apparently they didn't charge us the full amount of labour that it should have been but the labour alone was over £800. The manifold was over £300, the total bill was in the region of £2k.

I'm just about to have a chat with LR Customer Services as there's no way a 13k mile car that has never done short journeys in it's life should need that sort of work carrying out.
