Service parts

Ok my TDV8 needs a service. Went to two Landrover Garges last week, wouldnt even switch the lights on in the work shop !!!! Not taking my car there, EVER.

Going to get my local British guy to do my service, hes good, he was head techy for the police and fire service in the uk, if a job is to big, he takes it to a well know garafe and does it there..... im a nut shell i trust him.

So my TDV8 is on a 07 and done 50,000 miles. What needs changing and looking at at this age, milage.

It seams to have only ever had oil changes etc acording to the SH.

I was thinking, airfilter, oil filter, pollon filter and fule filter ????????? Also can you recomend a good place to get the parts ? I dont want to get them out here for quality issues !!!!

Thanks for the help guys.

PS Does the Grabox need looking at ? serviceing ?

Yea thats about it air, oil and fuel filters and make sure the correct oil is used, not cheap bulk stuff.

checking the antifreeze mix and brake pads\discs wont do any harm either. 2004 black Vogue TD6

Yes, I don't know the exact figures, but generally 50-60K for an Automatic is a good rule of thumb.

Can you not mail order from a Land Rover dealer in the UK or something? Personally though I would just buy off ebay, especially for things like the filters. I imagine the only thing you'll have to source locally would be the oil.

You need to fill your signature out - so we all know what year/variant of RR you own so people can recommend accordingly.

Why would you say that?

The ZF box never needs servicing according to BMW/Land Rover. Then it turns out it needs servicing every 60K. The GM box never needs servicing either, oh and then it turns out it needs servicing at 50K and now has a bad reputation for being un-reliable when it turns out the poor thing just wants clean fluid.

Gearbox oil has to work very hard, high temperatures can drastically reduce its effective life. Couple that with the fact it has to absorb the friction material from day 1 - unlike the engine oil that gets changed after the "run in" period. Gearbox tech may have changed (marginally) but oil is still oil.

From ZF:

“ZF 5 and 6-speed as well as the ZF 4HP20 automatic transmissions are filled maintenance-free with specially developed partially synthetic ATF oils. Maintenance-free fills are intended for normal operating conditions.

Especially driving at very high operating temperatures can result in accelerated aging or increased wear of ATF oils. It is recommended, in the event of severe operating conditions, such as :
- frequent highway driving in top speed range,
- offensive, sporty driving style,
- frequent trailer operation,
being above average, oil purification (oil change) on automatic transmissions is recommended between 50,000 Miles and 75,000 Miles, or 8 years, depending on the load.”

Considering the gearbox is a BMW car gearbox it is already on its limits. I cannot find specific mention to the ZF 6HP26 servicing requirements, only the 5HP24 which ZF specifically say is 60K - and the 6HP is a slighltly longer 5HP.
