Battery replacement in 2011 L322

I decided to replace my battery. The car was showing odd errors which may have been voltage related, and the IID tool showed the voltage dropped to 12v almost immediately.

Bought a Varta G14 so I didnt have problems fitting it in with the explosive charge, from TAYNA, decent price and next day delivery.

When I came to swap it I couldn't figure out how to get the old one out. It looks like the setup on the 5.0 SC. There is an ECU in the way with odd torx bolts. It looks like you either remove this (!) or the scuttle.

Has anyone done this? Or any ideas?

Sorry 2 photos, cant work out how to delete one of them.

Got mine replaced by a local ATS garage. They removed the scuttle and wipers. Bit of a PITA, but it worked.

I think the screws are "anti-tamper" screws.

Err, not simple, more recent cars have an ECU in the way with the tamper proof bolts.

I have it booked in at the local independent today to have it fitted, I am going to let them tamper with it.

I am sure you are right.
It is far more complicated than the W M suggests.

Also I remember reading the battery monitoring system needs re-booting using an iid tool.
I think it is in the BCM ( body control module).

I did mine a few months ago and it wasn't too bad. You need to put the bonnet in the service position, disconnect the battery and then disconnect and remove the ecu. IIRC I found it easier to remove the ecu mounting bracket with the ecu. The ecu was just fixed with torx screws. Then undo the battery clamp and lift the battery clear.

Drop in the new battery and then put everything back. You do need to use the IID tool to reset the stored battery monitoring data. I'm not sure what happens if you don't do this. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Has been tampered with, and new battery installed. FOC from Maltings in Westwoodside not far from Doncaster, recommended.
They took out the ECU rather than the scuttle. The mechanic said that it was the first time he had used his tamper-proof torx.
I hope it cures the gremlins.
