Coding a new key

I've received my new key from Land Rover. It physically locks and unlocks the door but the buttons do not operate the locks remotely. I guess it needs coding. Can I do this myself, or do I now need to take the car to a dealer?
This is a second key, so I do have one fully operational key if that makes a difference.
Cheers

I would imagine knowing what model it was would give the more knowledgeable a chance of answering this question. If you fill in your profile model will be shown on the left of your posts.

Follow the handbook procedure? .

To synch the keys
1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).

2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, while holding down the "unlock" button, press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button. (You may or may not get the confirmation from the door locks.) Holding the key at your head level provides best results as the key sensor is in the side window pillar.

3) Repeat for each key you want to initialize within 30 seconds after the last one you initialized (if you have more).

4) Right after doing the last key, quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalize.

Between stages 2 and 3 above DO NOT put the additional key in the ignition (stage 1) as this starts the whole process again.

You will need to do it for all keys.

As Rod says put your vehicle in your avatar box. From your previous posts it is a 2005 Vogue but not whether it is Td6 or 4.4. John

Sorry, my vehicle is in my profile and also my signature, but guess I should have made it clearer. It's a 2004 05MY L322 TD6

Do you know, I didn't think to check that. Didn't imagine it would be covered in there. I'll have a look now.

Thanks for that. It's a td6 so does that confirm the above procedure is correct? Assuming I dont find it in my owners manual.

That's the procedure for my 2003 TD6, so assume same for yours.

With regard to the list of vehicles, some folk list motors past and present so may not be current. If you click on the little picture under a users name the current vehicle spec pops up, very useful Thumbs Up Not getting at you, just trying to be helpful.

No problem, no offence taken. Perhaps I have to click something somewhere to make it show. The details are in my profile, but I don't seem to have the clicky link under my profile picture. Any clues as to what I need to do?
