Broken drivers door mechanism?

After a few weeks of a stiff door handle I went to get into the RR yesterday & nothing happened!

I pulled the door handle, there was some immediate resistance & then it went loose. Further attempts to open the door were unsuccessful. The handle will move freely but it's obvious it's not attached to anything! The door can be opened as normal from inside.

I'm assuming the external release cable has snapped?

1. Before I order a new cable is there anything else it might be?
2. Genuine or aftermarket? Cost difference is minimal £27 v £40
3. Is it a dealer, RR specialist, any competent mechanic or DIY job to replace it?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up Current - RRV Autobiography 4.4V8 2005

There are some videos on YouTube... this is one of a few. Might be one of a number for the complete job.

Will give you an idea whether you want to tackle it yourself.

Dolphinboy it's quite a simple job, took me about 15 minutes in total.

Opened the door from inside, removed the door card (plenty of guides online). After that the Bowden cable simply clips into place, it is a little fiddly particularly if you have big hands. Ed

I used Downfield Garage, Downfield Rd, Clifton .... 0117 9737355

They're a little indie that I've used loads of times over the years. They aren't a LR specialist but they know what they're doing, it's staffed by two genuine mechanics not motor vehicle technicians if you know what I mean?

Used aftermarket part for about £27 delivered & fitting was an hours labour.

There is an airbag in the door along with all the other stuff so despite watching the videos I decided not to try it myself. Current - RRV Autobiography 4.4V8 2005

I have the broken cable problem too.

What's the procedure for disarming the airbag? Battery disconnected for 30 minutes?
