Hi all been having another mooch about looking to change and noticed that 2007 4.2 on similar milage as to when I bought mine as the same price or a tad more and I bought mine nearly 4 yrs ago and the 5's are getting more expensive

The 4.2 SC will be a future classic, I am sure of it and the prices are on the up. (Or am I just hopefully living in cloud cuckoo land?!)

On a serious note, I would quite like to change mine too as it's getting on a bit now but what to buy?

The 4.4 TDV8 looks to be holding out well but I'm a bit wary about the future of derv plus I do so many ridiculoiusly short trips that it would do it no good at all.

The 5.0 SC is quicker, has another 100 BHP and uses less fuel but.............it's those engine gremlins that I keep reading about which are putting me off.

I'm doing very low miles in my 4.2 these days as I am quite enjoying saving the planet in my Tesla powered Merc. The EV forums are quite dull though, nothing ever goes wrong so the only subject of conversation is how inconsiderate ICE drivers' are who block EV charging posts.......

My 4.2 is not worth much so I am thinking about dry storing it and visiting it again in another decade!  2006 4.2 SC

Not far off where I am at but I already have a classic and a p38 in the garage and not sure my dearly beloved would accept me storing another

Keep it if you possibly can, a Classic, P38 and L322 are a fabulous collection to have.

It would be nice, but not holding my breath.

When I was at Land Rover recently they were saying how the petrol ones are more in demand now than they have been for a long time.

We'll see.

Had my 4.2 just over a year now. I keep a close eye on the second hand market and I'd definitely say they have seen a slight rise in the last 6 months. I havent lost much money at all on mine  Jordan

Had my 2004 vogue for 4 and a half years I paid just less than 9 thousand for it but if I were to buy the equivalent now which would be a 58 plate I would have to find a few a lot more than what I paid to aquire it !

Interesting points. I've been pondering the value of the 11-plate TDV8 Autobiography I've had for a couple of years - just moved to a super-narrow street and it's only a matter of time before it gets hit, or I get blocked in... not really FF territory. I imagine I'll have lost at least £10k in the intervening years, doing about 12,000 miles in the process.

If I were to go and buy mine from a dealer today it would be about 30k I paid 38k 2 years ago so looking at about 4K per year, which isn't too bad.

With the new tax bands coming in older car prices may firm up slightly, at least that's what I'm hoping. The lure of a 405 is starting but i reckon it will be a couple of years yet before I get one so I could do with prices holding up. Mine is a 12 so one of the last ones so should reach a price floor at mid teens but I reckon that it will be still worth north or 20k in a couple of years. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

10K in two years !! And only 12k miles, that near enough £1 mile just in depreciation.

Perhaps they'll go the way of Defenders, D1's and classics, reach a bottom price then rise again. Defenders can fetch astronomical prices, as do classics, D1's are rising now for good ones. You can pay more now for a good D1 than a rough L322.

I am suppressing that particular thought!! Perhaps I paid Richard a little much (£35,000) but I think I might get £25,000 in a private sale if I am patient. On the upside, those miles have been incredibly relaxing and enjoyable, including road trips around the UK and to the South of France and back, so it was money well spent!
