Clonking from the front

Having read numerous posts about the dreaded front clonking sounds that some members have experienced.
You can imagin my surprise when one day it happened, "what was that sound?", radio off / window down "there it was again".
Wheels off quick check, nothing obvious.
Working on the theory of replace cheapest first I had the following parts replaced:-

1/ Front track rod ends (both sides) still there.
2/ Front ARB link arms still there.
3/ Both Lower Suspension arms (the straightish ones with ball joint fitted on the end). Wow hoo Silence
The other link arms with separate ball joints I think ill get done later this year, from what ive read thay are a pain.

Items 1 and 2 are made by Lemforder, the lower suspension arms by Delphi.

This has surprised me as the car is a low milage one and spotless. I dont think the suspension set up front and rear is really strong enough for the size /weight of the car or some off road abuse it could be subjected to.

Common failure point. The ARB drop links last about 50k, the track rod ends similar distance and the lower ball joints might make it to around 70k.

It depends on how the car has been driven, and the state of the rubbers.

on an 07 car regardless of milage these are parts I would be expecting to have to change. My 07 had all of the above done between 50 and 70k.

Its easier and less swearing to change the whole of the upper arm. Getting the ball joint out is the pain, whereas unbolting the entire arm is pretty simple. Thumbs Up (more money but less swearing.....) There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Also had a clonk which sounded as if it was from the front and it was a rear bush I ended up changing all bushes and arms at 100k

I'm starting to realise this is the joys of owning a Fatty and part of the initiation process of ownership, pass the Asprins!!.

On a side note, while playing with the display i stumbled across the average MPG and 19.1 was showing, this was as a result of urban and motorway driving @ 70mph.
How does this compare with other 4.2 SC engines, good / bad / average???
