United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

I kinda like it but kinda don't like it. I'd call it a confusion styling theme...

LIKE: Grille. A nice evolution of RR design language
LIKE:Tan inner edge on steering wheel is cool and different.
DISLIKE: Look at the rear seat shot - just too many colours and tones going on there.
DISLIKE: Front doorcard speaker grilles
LIKE: Profile view, it's a clean with the pop out Tesla door handles.
DISLIKE: They copied Tesla doorhandles
DISLIKE: Front Console switch area under main screen (might look better switched on)
BIG DISLIKE: Rear heater grille area. Did they run out of money?
BIGGEST DISLIKE: giant RANGE ROVER lettering on the back - just way too big.

When the L322 came out the interior design was a game changer. This just doesn't captivate. Maybe better in person. I hope the 405 replacement is better.

. Cheers, Greg

I think it might prove popular for wives of L405 owners...

Caught sight of one the other day near Coventry coming at me at great speed! Was not aware of the launch yet so I had wondered what it was! Taking a rest from Land Rovers for a bit.......

Ok so now I have found out more about this model, I am left wondering why? Spotted a few on a transporter heading south on the M5 the other day and like one of the posts above, I have to say the styling is wrong. Front is great with contemporary LR look and great presence. The rear struck me as a dogs dinner of new discovery crossed with Fiat 500L. If I wanted a vehicle with that combination of capabilities and had the ready cash to buy new, I'd go straight for an F Pace and get the same platform but with "finished" styling. JLR don't get it wrong nowadays, it will sell in great numbers. Still think it's sacreligeous (?) to use the name Velar though.

I'll not argue with that - it will indeed sell well I'm sure. We should all celebrate that JLR are successful and continue to make some great vehicles. just not my choice. On the use of the name, I guess it is their intellectual property to use as they choose and for many it will have no significance! Taking a rest from Land Rovers for a bit.......

True, the use of the name won't bother the heathens amongst us Laughing

Had a good look at it at Goodwood. Seemed OK but not really of any interest to me and I'd be surprised if it converted any FF owners. What constantly amazes me is how they identify a niche of potential owners not yet satisfied and make a new model just for them. I suppose there's an infinite number of ways you can blend styling cues from every car in the range and make a new one. The differences between Ewoks, Disco Sports, RR Sports, and now the Velar are getting very fine indeed, but I'm sure we will all have our preferences so that just goes to prove they are right to make them... Mike - MPx

2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aruba

We stopped in at the showroom last week as I spotted one sitting there and wanted a look. So I tramp in with the 5yr old boy and wife and start looking round all the cars. Clearly, wearing a pair of shorts and polo short, I'm quickly assessed as 'he is not going to buy a car today' by the staff ... but they are very friendly none the less.

After a while, I'm sat in the RR sport (which is still my fave) looking over at the boy who is in the drivers seat of the Velar, trying to get out, but cant figure out the door handle. I walk over and open the door and *boom* ... the smell of the boy having just dropped a massive one hits me ...

"do you need the toilet?"
"yes" was the sheepish reply

So I politely ask where the toilets are, get the boy out, calmly closing the door which shuts gently with a final waft of fart hitting my nose, and head off to the toilets thinking 'I hope that dissipates in the cabin'

I return to the showroom a short time later, boy in hand only to look over at the Velar to see 2 very smartly dressed chaps who the staff will have assessed as "they may buy a car today" crawling inside and out the car ... at which point i think "I REALLY hope that fart dissipates within the cabin" They guys walk away and I pop my head back into the velar to thankfully smell fresh new car smell ... what a relief!

Suffice to say, I was quite impressed with the Velar. better looking in person than on paper I thought. V8 or else ...

The local LR dealer made that very expensive mistake with a mates brother in law, so he went down the road and ordered an Aston instead. Laughing

Moral. Never judge a Black Country bloke by his clothes or accent Laughing

Nice story fisha! Thumbs Up

I saw the car a few months ago; nice, in a RRS kind of a way, but so much money, for so little space.

Saw the Velar at Goodwood too. We were there when the stand opened at 8 am hoping to avoid the queue for the Land Rover Experience rides (which we didn't, even arriving at 7.45 the queue was still at the 60 min wait line...so we went to the stand instead).

What suprised me was that the rope barrier to the stand was dropped, and grown men and women literally ran to the Velar to get in to it! We were keen to see it too.

We did get our look, and must admit we both liked it very much. (I was still at that stage a very happy Defender owner).

We wandered round the stand though and came across the FFRR, a different league entirely. The rest is history of course as I'm looking out of the window at the FFRR standing where the Defender used to live.

Ironic that the Velar was the reason we bought the FF given the history of the name!
