Thanks to all who provided some recommendations.

I obtained several quotes from various West Midlands LR and transmission specialists, with price ranging from £1100 to eye watering £1800 (inc. of VAT).

In the end I decided to go for JMW 4x4 in Hartlebury, based on cost, availability of free courtesy car, option to collect and drop cars off on Saturdays and ease to get to the place from my home.
JMW is a great little place, very friendly and professional. They took the car in for 24hours at first to run some checks and confirm that the torque converter was indeed at fault. It the meantime I was provided with a courtesy car, all free of charge.

Two weeks later the car was back at JMW to get the actual work done. I was charged just over £1200 (inc. VAT). This included an original ZF torque converter, a full transmission oil flush (using the correct machine, not just dropping the oil from the sump), new oil and additive and a new filter kit. Plus the use of the courtesy car for a week.

I picked the car up yesterday. As well as the juddering now gone, the gear change is very smooth. Hopefully this will last us another 80k miles.

I can only recommend JMW 4x4 and I shall take the car back there once it's due a service.

Nick.
