Hub bearing.

I have what I think is a wheel bearing drone, front nearside.
Does anyone know if this is a press fit, if so I'll have to hand it to a garage?

press fit, ball and race bearing not a taper/roller bearing, pretty chunky thing.Bit of a pita to get out by all accounts.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

There is a young mechanic we use and he managed it, said it was a real pain to do, and he only had to put it in a new hub he didn't have to take the old one out!

LR managed to somehow bend the but which goes in the hole on the back of the wheel so the wheel was a real git to get on and off, they wouldn't accept it was their fault.... so my mechanic put on a new hub and bearing for good measure. the bearing isn't too much cash but it will require a decent press to get it in and out and probably some heat too..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I was trying to confirm if it was a wheel bearing and asked if they could have a look, that will cost £30 sir, but an MoT is only £40 I'll have one of those I said. I had already switch front and rear wheels as suggested by Cam-Tech which made little or no difference. Out they came with the pass, what about the wheel bearing, oh can't spin the wheel fast enough to hear anything minimal movement so as far as an MoT test it is fine. Booked in for Friday to take a mechanic for a short drive............. I will go for the hub with bearing already pressed in as it is not much more and will save garage time.

Oh crap not wheel bearing.
Now what else goes with the speed of the wheel, yep the diff.
Any recommend refurbers out there?

How wrong can you be?

Not a wheel bearing not the front diff or the TC, it is the rear diff.

Currently in bits on they only place that was willing to take it on local. LR are taking their time with replacement parts should be back together Monday.

3 garages failed to diagnose where the noise/vibration was coming from, the current one also thought it was front diff until they had it in the air and ran it in gear. The prop movement was then obvious. Went for a rebuild rather than a refurb replacement seamed a good idea but had not vectored in the parts delay, hey ho that's life.

Bit late know but Nige who runs Xcess4x4 and Megasquirt is very knowledgeable when it comes to diffs. Although he's more into Defender stuff.

Based down near Haslemere, Surrey. Top block of somewhat eccentric / accident prone. Just built me a beautiful, and somewhat special it turns out, diff for the 110. Ed

Had it back and done over 1000 miles in a now quiet cabin.
One output bearing had worn causing the prop bearing to wear, leading to the gearing wearing. Had the lot changed and they found that the good bearing fell apart on removal - a disaster about to happen.

Due to the under body shielding the noise from the axle was tunnelled to the front, only the 3rd garage found the fault. They could not explain why 20 miles was put on the clock, road tests or lunch runs?
