MOT today

And it failed Big Cry

I knew it would but wasn't sure on how much. A fair bit as it turns out - mainly bushes, cracked indicator, petrol filler seal but the most annoying is welding on rear subframe one side. Other side was an advisory- well the advisory list was very long. Waiting for the estimated repair bill before deciding on whether to scrap or not. 2002 v8 so worth Censored all as it is

I know how you feel, did you walk away with a smile then cry as you got down the road?!
Mine failed on fuel cap, seized caliper, track rod end and handbrake, fixed all those and took it back for retest

Put mine in today and it passed. I was only trying to find out if it was a wheel bearing and asked it they could have a look, that will cost £30 sir, but an MoT is only £40 I'll have one of those I said. Out they came with the pass, what about the wheel bearing, oh can't spin the wheel fast enough to hear anything minimal movement so as far as an MoT test it is fine. Booked in for Friday to take a mechanic for a short drive.............

I phoned the garage for the result sounding all jolly but crying inside. Still not sure whether to repair or just move on to a tdv8. Think If the bill exceeds £1500 it's going on eBay as spares repairs as the car is only worth peanuts

On the other foot if all is well even the 2002 V8 go for decent amount privately for ones with full service and well looked after but they seem to be getting harder to find.

Unfortunately at the age now they start becoming past the point off repair vs value and worth to keep them alive.. so most end up on eBay as spares or repair which is a shame but this is how it is.

Lucky for me with mine I had a very inclusive warranty for long time which payed out more then the car value over the time of using it which means my car has had everything possible replaced and is basically new with amount replaced parts.. 2003 Range Rover 4.4 Litre V8 - Adriatic blue

Had a chat with the garage - estimate of £500 plus vat for bulk of it but hadn't investigated the subframe welding too deeply as other cars on the ramp. Thought not too bad so popped in after work for a chat where I was hit with we've had it on the ramp and I was given a bag of rusted metal. Sorry Sir but welding is estimated at £2500+vat. Subframe mounting points shot and could spread further once fuel tank removed for better access. They also were very suprised that the last MOT didn't show any advisorys on this area.

So how much can I expect to get for the heap of Land Rover turd as is. I'm not breaking it myself as I cannot be bothered.

You win some you lose some. Not sure I dare take a risk on another one or just move on to another brand

Well I've had a welder check it over and yes it needs welding but he thinks the tester was harsh as it's not that bad. I'm in two minds just to get it retested with the other bits done to see what happens. I do love Range Rovers but not this particular one Rolling Eyes

Look for replacement rear sub-frame on auction sites should be £300-400 in good nick. Can then be prepped for fitting.

Not a hugely difficult job to swap over...

roughly....

Remove Exhaust
Disconnect rear brakes and FBH pump
Unclip electrical fittings (height sensors, brake pad, ABS)
Disconnect air suspension pipes from rear bags
Disconnect rear Diff from and remove rear propshaft
Undo subframe mounting bolts (x 4)

and it should fall out! (Yes will need jacks, support etc. to gently lower)

Have no idea why they need to remove the fuel tank to get access? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink
