Oil Leak of some sort

ok so since it was a dry day today i got under the RR today to change the engine oil.. Boy it does go everywhere despite me fashioning a plastic bottle to control the flow.. but hey ho followed everyones advice and put card board under and lets say I will be sleeping in my bed tonight and not the couch.

while I was there I noticed some oil leak. it was where the transmission meets the engine. Any idea where this could be coming from?

see pic below.. am also right I thinking that there should be some kind of grommett in the hole there?

PS. the transmission pan is bone dry Current:

I don't know the source of your leak, but mine leaked gear box oil from the join between engine and gearbox, needed a new gearbox as 2 litres had been lost, so worth checking if it is that. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I hope its not that.. I have cleaned it all up so will check the source again..

scotcruz if you have 4.4TDV8 than the oil leak is most probably from leaking O ring in the back of the engine. excellent tread how to fix it started by Cam-Tech-Craig.

ps.

you are missing rubber grommet.

cheers mate.. mines a 3.6 TDV8 but will have a read and hope it is that and not the gearbox seal.

thought it was a missing grommet. Current:
