MPG calculator accuracy

I have just returned from a weekend away and thought I would take the opportunity to check the trip computer accuracy.
I brimmed the tank on Friday. 478 miles back to same garage, trip computer said 34.1mpg.
My calculations using free iPhone app came to 33.8mpg.
Near enough for me and very happy with mpg given it included several motorway jams in roadworks on M5 and M6 plus some nightmare driving in heavy London traffic. Incidentally, when I brimmed it on my return it showed a range of 578miles, which is the highest I have ever seen it read.
It will now take me the rest of the week to clean all the dead flies off.

Cheers

I have just done two full to empty fills and reset the mpg and miles at fill time. Both times the fuel computer gave a slightly different mpg than I was actually getting. Then i included the roughly 5% inaccuracy in my speedo, it over reads approx 5% at all speeds, and the computer was pretty much spot on.

I tend to get between 25 and 27mog on my TD6, which seems very low compared to others here. RR History

My 2004 4.4 V8 returns a crippling 14.7 - I'm running it on LPG though which takes a lot of the pain (But not all!)

Overall, according to the 'Fuelio' app I have on my smartphone and based on several months driving now, my 07 3.6 TDV8 has returned 30.5 mpg. That's based on a range of driving styles, from short shopping trips to road trips abroad, and my daily 90 mile commute on a congested M27.

I'm very happy with that given the weight and performance of the car, and most people find it hard to believe.

The computer generally indicates a figure about 7% optimistic. 2012 TDV8 Westminster in the New Forest

INACCURATE FUEL GUAGE READING - LR SENDER WIRING MOD?

Hi...

2011 5L SC currently in with dealer having the wiring modification done to fix inaccurate reading, so a question please to those who own the same.

When filled to the brim, what does the trip computer tell you the mileage range is - mine before going in for work to be done showed ~338miles is that in-line with others?

Many thanks!

My 05 SC averages around 17mpg

On a 2,000 mile trip in Europe I averaged 20.1mpg with four of us in the car, bike rack on tow bar and the boot full to the roof, so not too bad overall!

cheers Alex

Sounds good. I recorded 33.8 on a run down to Tilbury and back the other week.

Seems the trick to good MPG is gentle gearshifts when pulling away at the lights, not minding sticking her at 60MPH on Cruise Control, and making sure she has good quality fuel in the tank.
