GAP IID Tool // Suspension Calibration

Hello everybody!

I'm kinda struggling with the GAP tool and its suspension calibration function. Whenever I use the guided calibration I can set the levels for each corner to the correct height. But as soon as I finish the whole procedure, the old heights are present. It seems like the ECU forgets the new settings or does not store them or sth similar.

Front left is about 2cm lower than the right side

Has anybody else experienced this issue and can tell me a remedy? Should I give the manual calibration a try?

Gap Technical support are pretty quick to reply so try them. I find you need to go into the height adjust function for the system to update a new calibration. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I had this issue; there is a maximum range of tolerance on the suspension adjustment. If one of the height sensors exceeds the range then the adjustment won’t be excepted by the control module and the heights remain as they were. A temporary work around is to set all the corners so that they are “even” but 10mm lower than specified. That way the car sits properly but rides a little lower than spec. ( here even = what is specified for the front & rear heights minus 10mm )

I’m afraid I can’t exactly remember what the maximum height is… I seem to remember that one of my rear corners was approx 50mm lower than all the others.

The root cause may be either/both of faulty/worn ride height sensors or worn suspension bushes in the arms/control arms and/or drop links.

In my experience, unless you have access to good workshop facilities, then it’s worth getting a good Indy to do the work. I spent a good day on my driveway working on replacing ride height sensors. It’s one of those jobs that looks straight forward but actually turns out to be a pig because everything is corroded and old and hard to access. I ended up having to cut my sensor off with a junior hacksaw.

After a lot of fuss I took the car to GlenRands near Liphook who replaced the worn suspension components, recalibrated the ride height and did a Hunter 4x4 wheel alignment. The difference was night and day; it was like driving a brand new vehicle after the work AND 12 months on it still rides just as well. So well worth it ! TDV8 4.4 2012

Thank you very much for your inputs!

I know that the bushes and other rubber parts in the suspension are not in the best possible condition anymore, so I might get an Indy to replace them. I guess that the mechanical work can be done by any ambitious workshop, however the recalibration probably needs a specialist.

Problem is that here in Vienna everybody with specific LR knowledge has incredible high hourly charges, so I might split the works a little bit...

For now I will try the calibrate everything a little bit lower than standard and see if this does the trick - that was a very good idea! Thanks again! TDV8 4.4 MY2012 Vogue Trim

Any good garage could probably do this and if you have the Gap IID tool then the ride height calibration should also be doable. Pick a good mechanic that you know/use regularly and see what they say…. After all, as you own an RR, it will be profitable for him and after a year you’ll have been there so often you’ll have a new best friend !! TDV8 4.4 2012

I cann't remember where or when I read this, that if you changed the calibration values, that when you reread them you get the previous values.
This suggests that the values you read are not "absolute" values, but rather "relative" vaues.
If you measure the actual values before and after writing new values, you would definitely find out if there was any change.
Ill let you know if I find the thread wher I think I saw this.
