England 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black
I might be joining the big boys club, whats your views on...

I presently have a 2012 TDV8 4.4 Vogue SE with rear entertainment etc, 73,000 miles

I am looking at a 2013 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography with 69,000 and two years Main Dealer warranty.

It will cost me about £25k to swap - is it worth it ( I know that is a subjective question but views would be appreciated)

should I look at a V6 ???

Thanks Mick 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

It's a no brainier to try both engines first before you part with so much money. The 3.0 is as quick as yours, more refined than both yours and the l405 V8 and pretty good on fuel. The V8 is noticeably quicker than yours and again surprisingly good on fuel and again a good engine. For my two penneth worth I'd also look at something with less miles if you can afford it, even if it means picking a well specked SE. The engine would come second place to picking a well cared for car with enough kit in it to make driving special Thumbs Up

Thankyou for that.

Having read Basilfawlty's comments in another thread I am re considering what I need exactly.

I like the speed of mine, but it seems the weight loss between L322 and L405 means that the V6 will be as spritely. There are a number of gadgets on a MY2013 AB that I would not use like the cameras all round, however I would use the incontrol remote, lane departure, active cruise etc.

In light of this I am considering a 3.0 VSE, it seems for the same money give or take I can get a 2015 MY

This car it 3 years newer and only has 33,000 miles for the same money (ish)

Thanks for all your help 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

The one in the link is a vogue so won't have adaptive cruise control . I agree the SE offers a great compromise and I rate the 3 litre v6 . Try and get one with front fog lights as they are only standard on the autobiography , which is a bit daft.

That one looks a bit poverty spec. Who doesn't spec the fog lights!

Front fogs are really a waste of time IMHO as actual lights, but I do think they look better with them.

I'd be far more concerned with the standard 380W hifi, but we each have our own list of things we actually care about. I'm another who has settled on VSE as the happy medium - largely as my wife is a fan of cooled seats - and it was far easier to just search for a VSE or AB that had them as standard than read through the full spec of all the Vogues.

Happy hunting Thumbs Up

I agree with the SE comment, and anything around needs the 2 year warranty alaso I'd say.

Having owned these type of cars for 20 years I know the dilemma as it was mine 6 months ago, and I went for a VSE with some other bits, like turbines, and tbh the VSE is the sweet spot for me and gives me things other cars just won't have at that second hand money, like soft close doors and Meridien hifi.

I'd go with the comment, about the right car (mines was 1 owner sold and serviced by Pentland) and they sold the owner an almost exact same spec new car, and in all honesty, if I use sport mode and use the paddles, it's quicker than you would like to think, and I reckon a better overall drive than a V8 in fuel costs and so on. I also think resale the V6 will probably have a softer sell on the other side which is why I chose it as Ill likely go for an upgrade in 2018. all smug in my new plug!

You will know when it's time to change, but for me to pay £25,000 extra for a car that is about the same age, with the same engine and about the same mileage would not make sense, even allowing for the greater performance and refinement of the 405 and the reduced corrosion risk, against reduced luggage space.

There was a period when the 3.0s were subject to a build fault which led to engine seizures, if you choose a 3.0 you might want to avoid that period/check if the car has had a new engine.

With all the fuss just now about diesel emissions I would be wondering whether it is worth spending a lot on a diesel until it is clearer what measures might be introduced in the areas I live/drive in. There might perhaps be some differentiation between Euro 5 and Euro 6 (adblue) cars (I think 6 came in from Sept 2015?). Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks,

I am going to get a 3.0l.

Can someone direct me to where I can find the build date issues - I am looking at a 2015 VSE. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

I don't know whether LR dealers would be open enough to tell you, but a starting point might be jonttt's thread "My 405 is terminal" and you could use the search facility with "seized 3.0" or the like. His one seemed to be a 2015. Only Range Rovers since 1988
