Lights either side of thumbwheel - interior side vents?

Should the open /closed blobs (green and white) on either side of the thumbwheel on the interior side vents light up, like the ones on the centre vents. Neither of mine do, and never have.

If there are supposed to, is this an easy repair (assuming its a bulb replacement job!)

Although they are not meant to - they have the bulb holder in place to enable them to be lit, along with the plastic lights guide to allow you to use one bulb for two things.

Land Rover obviously wanted them lit but forgot, or thought it a waste of money.

Fitting lights wouldn't be hard, its on my list to do, just some way down the list!

More irritating is the non-illuminated stupid thumb-wheel.

I think you may have done! They don't need to be as bright as the sun, but some illumination would be nice.

I thought the same when I got my car, found it strange that they didn't light, a bit like the thumbwheel in the centre to adjust the hot/cold flow (i.e. 1-3 blue dots , 1-3 red dots). This does annoy me as I like a mildly warm temp in the car but sometimes want to warm it up quicker for other occupants , but at night, I can't see the markings on the wheel to put it back to 1 blue dot so end up putting the interior light on to see it. If someone now tells me this wheel has a bulb in it and mine has failed I won't be happy!! Steve

No bulb in there Thumbs Up

The frustrating thing about the thumb wheel is the temperature there confuses the Climate Control - If you've set the interior temperature to 21C the car will maintain that, if the thumbwheel is set to hot or cold though the CC will constantly be fighting the air coming out of there.

What is the purpose of this thumbwheel anyway, as only some german car makers fit it, the rest of the world does OK without it?

Not far from the truth - I believe they were switched off (before going into production I think) because their reflection in the side door glass at night was considered too distracting.

Odd, every other car manufacturer manages it, and there are LED's all over the rest of the car. If you sit in the drivers seat they are not in your vision, nor would the reflection be...

I think it was more just a cost cutting exercise from BMW... Like the scissor jack for a 2 tonne car.

You cant see the vents in the side mirrors though? So there certainly wouldnt be a reflection there at night... Take a look next time you're sat in your car.
