Digital instrument cluster intermittently switching on/off

Hi,

I have a strange intermittent problem on my MY2011 full fat that I thought I would share to see if anyone had similar; every now and again, the digital display simply switches off and restarts - almost like it is re-booting. The entire display screen goes black and then 5-10 secs later it comes back on. This does not affect external lights, indicators, sat nav, music, rear screens etc it is purely the digital dash.
I wasn't sure of the age of the battery so I replaced it with a brand new one a couple of weeks ago - this has made no difference.

I have dug out a potential reference to a TSB that may resolve this issue but can't find any details - potentially LTB00540NAS1 if anyone has access to the TSB list Smile

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks,
James

I paid for a days Topix subscription last week with the intention of downloading all the TSB's applicable to my 2011 vin.
Unfortunately the system crashed before I made much progress.

I did however get a full list of 159 TSB's before it crashed.

LTB 00540 v5, is titled; Engine will not crank/ Smart Key not found message displayed.

The instrument cluster TSB's are in section 413, but the only 2 listed refer to the cameras and the horn. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately I had my FF at the dealer today and they have diagnosed a blown cooling fan in the instrument cluster leading to cooked components - the only remedy is a replacement cluster at £1,700 fitted! Thank god I was sitting down when they told me that...

Having now looked at it more, I am thinking that I can change the cluster myself for considerably less than that - there are several clusters on fleabay for ~£350 and removing the dashtop isn't that big a job is it? I've seen the videos for the pre-facelifts and given I'm not afraid to wield a spanner it looks pretty simple.

My question is, is there anyone out there with a 2010+ facelift FF that has removed the dash and are there any significant differences to the pre-facelift that I need to be aware of please?

The temperature sensors are supposed to protect the cluster in the event of a fan failure.

The cooling fan is physically separate from the cluster , so your cluster might be ok, just the fan faulty. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Can a used cluster be programmed to another vehicle?

That is a very good question and I am struggling to find out whether a new screen will need coding at all.
Thanks for all of the info so far, I'll keep things updated as I progress.

Just to close this out, I ended up buying a brand new cluster (from eBay of all places) for £250 and had it fitted and coded by a local specialist for 2 hours labour - this has now been in for 6 months and working perfectly.
Worked out considerably cheaper than the original quotes.
