Suggestions on how to treat my TDV8

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster ( at least i think so Wink ).

So, after my 5 year term with a P38A 2.5 TD and burning electrical stuff (pic below),

I got myself a nice, well maintained 2008 TDV8 Vogue in Java Black with 230kkm on the clock, all long distance highway driving (well, that was before...):

Started the ownership off with fixing the right front door harness as the door wouldn't open (which saved me 1000€ in negotiation), Fitted a bigger battery (as I live high in the mountains and functional remote unlocking is a good idea if a brown bear finds you attractive.

There was also a torque converter job, 18" compomotives with 265/60 KO2 fitted :

and then plenty of gravel roads, some deep mud ruts, 1m high snowdrifts.

And then 1400 km trips in one day on german autobahn, while sitting in that effin comfy capitan chair (where i have to fix the heater, note to self).

Anyway.

Decided to give it a treat. It's now at 270k km, and i'm thinking
- turbos (not noisy but they're original)
- EGRs (check if plate is still there and blank them)
- glow plugs (much needed in winter, 2 are gone)
- front and rear suspension bushings (a luxury, but there's 20km of bad mountain road up to my house).
- wheel bearings (have a drone since wheels were fitted),
- front brake caliper rebuild (sticky piston) and new disc/pads
- new tailgate straps (one gone) and struts
- any magic i can do on the tailgate to stop the rust (other than buying a new one straight away)?
- oil in tranny (again) and diffs
- a reverse light that actually makes some light, next to camera.

Anything else I should do? Just decided I'm not buying a second car (although I was very tempted by a nice FL2 for her). Gotta spend some of the saved cash tho Cool

Cheers
Crt

My KO2s drone excessively for my ears so the next tyres will be something different.

Great post and pics.

My L322 is almost same with 265,000km and Compomotive wheels. I have Cooper AT3s. Apparently the latest version is better.

I have disabled the EGR using Australian emulators, but a BAS map out of the EGR to disable it may be a good idea. My mechanic has given the motor a couple of doses of induction cleaner. The 1st dose made a difference. Both these things seemed to make the motor run even quieter/smoother.

I keep wondering about what to do with the turbos. I am contemplating replacing them proactively. ______________________________

I would also like more powerful reversing lights. Not sure what the options are and legality of more powerful lights?

You certainly aren't the first to bemoan the reversing lights - there are many "need extra light when reversing" posts.

With what you guys are doing with your cars I suspect fitting extra lights is probably going to be the answer because you might struggle to get good enough light output from the original lamps - a better spread as well as extra"brightness" is probably what you are after 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ
